Sony: Vita Probably Can’t Handle GT6

Despite the obvious capability of the PlayStation Vita, it probably couldn't handle something like Gran Turismo 6 .

And that's basically what Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told IGN . Because the upcoming PS3 exclusive utilizes a major portion of the console's power, a handheld iteration wouldn't quite cut the mustard:

"The PS Vita is a very powerful portable system, but not quite as powerful as PS3. As you can tell looking at GT6, it really is using PS3 to a very high level. In terms of Vita support, I don't expect the whole game to be able to run on PS Vita."

It's interesting that he said the "whole game" wouldn't be able to run on the Vita. Does that meany they'd be willing to try releasing an abbreviated version of GT6 for Sony's portable? We're not entirely sure what purpose that would serve, but it could offer a host of intriguing possibilities. Also, don't forget that there's a chance we'll see GT6 on the PS4; series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said GT6 could "evolve" into GT7 during the PS4 life cycle. Well, so long as we get a GT on PS4 eventually.

As for the upcoming entry, it's slated to launch on the PS3 on December 6.

Imagine the cost of a specialized memory card that fit it.

That's kind of douchey to dismiss the Vita a midst the poor sales performance. Sure the Vita doesn't have the power to host a big console game, and even though the Vita wouldn't be rendering the game at 720 still has to render the game at 540 which isn't too far from 720. But still, the poor thing can't find a market and Sonys' very own are already dismissing it. Hope they enjoyed putting the nail in the coffin.

I guess this is a hidden meaning for "We will not be releasing a GT title on psvita anytime soon… or ever". Go "F" yourself Sony!

would you really want to have another sub par gt game on a handheld again? the psp version was not very good. i do think the vita could handle it better than the psp but it would not stand up to the ps3 version and everyone would bitch.

You're talking about a small developer team that doesn't utilize outside resources. They're booked with GT6 and pressured to do GT on the PS4. They're really tight on schedule so it only makes sense that they don't have the time to do the Vita iteration anytime soon. Also, GT doesn't seem like something PD can just hand to a different development team like Uncharted and Little Big Planet has, so we just have to wait till PD is free and my guess is during or after the development of GT PS4.

I personally enjoyed GT PSP, but it definitely felt short and repetitive quickly. If they're going to do the Vita, I want them to take their time, because I believe they were pressured and rushed with GT PSP.

I honestly just don't understand why this is news in every gaming website. Obviously, there's no way a game like GT6 can run on a Vita, so why is it so revealing? Not only does it push the PS3 to the limit, just imagine the data size as World is implying above.

Really though, we at least already knew from Uncharted Golden Abyss that the game is nowhere near Uncharted 2's caliber. So it's only common sense that a game like GT6 won't look anywhere close to the Vita version.

All this GT6 stuff should just be put to rest. It's a PS3 game period. I wouldn't want PD to port it anywhere else. If we're to see the Vita version, I expect it to be built from the ground up for the system, as goes the PS4 version.

Nope. Sony never claimed that the Vita was a PS3 in your hands; those were rumors by a gaming magazine. In fact, one of the research managers at Sony said it would be impossible to have it that powerful with realistic battery life.

remember all of those devs, including Kojima, pre-Vita launch that were quoted in claiming the Vita was as powerful as the PS3?

anyway, those who knew better knew this wasnt actually the case.

I don't doubt something GT will come to Vita eventually.

If gt6 comes to ps4 at some point then couldn/t we use remote play to play it on the Vita?
