PSXE Poll Update: Vita’s Price Needs To Drop Immediately

While the PlayStation Vita is a well-received piece of hardware and makes prominent strides in the world of portable gaming, the price remains a major stumbling block for many.

As evidenced by our latest poll, the majority of gamers out there believe Sony needs to drop the price of their new handheld. This would follow in the footsteps of Nintendo, which launched their new 3DS portable unit last year and after disappointing sales quickly proceeded to slash the retail cost. Some say the Vita is properly priced for what it delivers (a sentiment with which we don't necessarily disagree), and Sony has stated that Vita sales are essentially on track with company expectations.

Still, most are calling for a lower price tag, which would likely spur sales. Might we see it some time this year…? Well, while you wait, we suggest you kick back and read through the next batch of qualified user reviews that have come our way. It's the second round of our So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest, and we have selected the ten best. Now it's your turn to pick the winner, which will see his/her review up in lights here at PSXE as an official guest review.

As a reminder, here are the available prizes that are up for grabs. Whoever earns the most votes will get a little sumthin… And remember, keep submitting because there's always a chance yours will be selected, and if you win multiple times, there could be a much larger prize waiting for you at the end of the year.

Im not surprised people want a price cut. I still say considering vitas graphics and over all package the price is fine my issue is games as of right now only two games interest me ac3 liberation and gravity rush.

PS3 is taking my time already, I got other hobbies, don't want to get into portable gaming this time around, had fun portable gaming ages ago but now that the years go by, I find portable gaming more useless to me except for vacation trips. So even a price drop won't interest me unless if I get a bonus check in the mail.

I voted for an immediate reduction in price. Mostly because I can't justify paying more than £100 for a handheld, but also because I just don't think it's worth it; my PS3 does just about everything better in almost every respect. Well, that I don't have the money xD

Not surprised I didn't get on the poll this week, lots of good reviews compared to last time. I voted for Sham's 'Prototype 2' review.

as i said before a price drop is not enough.
EB dropped the price for the vita for "hurry ends 5PM today!" 3 days latter its still up.
a week later its still up.
yea, what does that tell you?
i dont see the point in dropping the price till they have allot more things available for it.
hell were STILL waiting for that portable charger, it was suppose to be released in april!

I voted for an immediate price drop. I am not a big mobile gamer so that right there means I will only buy it when it is cheaper. The price of the memory cards makes it way to expensive in this market. And last it just doesn't really do as much as I wanted it to do.

Sure the graphics are nice and it has the two analog sticks but almost everything else with it is lacking to me, not enough good games, still isn't able to play PS1 games, I have heard the browser is awful(though the people that told me about it could be blowing it out of proportion), and those memory cards are just BS.

To me if they don't drop the price really soon the Vita will just end up being a mediocre item. Though it is from what I can tell vastly superior to the 3DS it just won't reach the audience that it deserves without the cheaper price.

I think the price of the Vita is fine. Where I think Sony should drop prices is on the memory cards.

I bought mine in Japan. $350, wifi only and only had Uncharted Golden Abyss. I bought a memory card and was able to download some of my PSP games from the PS Store. So far, I play with it everyday.

What the Vita needs is a bigger library. It is great as of right now, but that can only be said if you don't have a PS3. Most of the nice titles are ports or something similar.

Luckily we have a new IP coming this june, Gravity Daze(Gravity Rush). While the I do have the MGS HD collection, being able to play it on the go seems more tantalizing IMHO.

When more high production titles come in, the more people will buy it. I also think if they opened up the PS1 classics and Unlocked more of the PSP library, the more people will be interested.

Seeing how I'm still out of work 1 year later & that I sent my G3 model back to Gamestop when it bricked on me & had to use that money to pay down my backed-up utility bills, I had no choice but to also vote for an immediate price drop.

And since I still have 3 Vita games, plus a 16 GB Vita memory card that's chock full of games & DLC, demos & apps, I'm hoping to be able to afford another Vita soon.

Only this time, I'll only by the Wi-Fi model since the whole 3 months I had my G3 model, I could never even get AT+T's screwed-up data connect plan to work even once.

Seeing as how people were really impressed with the Vita's price when it was announced and considering that the hardware is currently far more capable than any smartphone on the market (even the ones that retail over $600 without a contract), I find it odd that people want an immediate price cut. Then again, I suppose if you ask 100 car owners if they'd like the Corvette's price dropped by 30% immediately, they'd all say yes too.

Sorry, but the outcome of this poll was as predictable as sunrise.
