PSXE User Review Contest: Time To Give Away Another Prize

We've done this several times in the past, and the voting is usually pretty close. In fact, one contest ended up tied after a full week of voting.

But this time, we have an easy runaway winner. The latest victor of our ongoing So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest, as selected by the PSXE community, is-

Temjin001 , for his great analysis of the single-player component of God of War: Ascension . The game has earned quite a bit of widespread praise, although many critics weren't overly impressed with the new multiplayer element. As usual, the single-player adventure is the bread-and-butter of the esteemed God of War franchise, and Temjin001 explained why in great detail. So he just has to email me at bdutka[at]psxextreme.com and we can talk about his free prize…maybe he wants Dead Space 3 , or another of the random goodies I have lying around.

This week, with all this talk about the new Xbox possibly being an "always-on" console (i.e., you need an Internet connection to play games, even single-player adventure), we want to know what PlayStation fans would think about a constantly connected PS4. Would you care? Would it ultimately affect your purchase decision?

User Review Contest: Impress Your Peers, Win A Free Game!

Update: We'll let this run for another week and by the way, feel free to submit a review for any game in the PlayStation realm. I'll remove the 2013 restriction. 🙂

Original Story:

It's the triumphant return of our popular So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest !

Last year, we handed out quite a few prizes to those who wrote the best reviews for high-profile video games. And now we've added a few important titles to the list of available prizes, so it's time to give you guys another shot at winning a free game.

Click through the link above to see how this works, if you aren't already familiar. Just submit a review to us through the User CP section of your PSXE account; this particular contest is calling for any 2013 game . That means that any title released on a PlayStation platform between January 1, 2013 and now is eligible, and you can write the review any way you see fit. It will only pass through a brief approval process on our end for the sake of preventing spam. There will be no editing; if it has misspelling and other mistakes, they'll be included in all their unfortunate glory.

Next Sunday, we'll post up the user reviews in our poll and ask which amateur critics wrote the best analysis. If we get more than 10 submissions this week (which is more than a little likely), we'll trim it down to the 10 best. Then it's all up to the community to decide the winner. Remember, to be eligible to receive a prize, you must be a US citizen , as we won't ship outside the country.

And here's an updated list of games we've got available; the winner will get to pick whatever he or she wants:

I also have more Vita games, along with some soundtracks and t-shirts, so if you win and nothing you see here catches your eye, I'm sure we can work something out. 🙂 Lastly, don't forget that the winner's review will be published on the site as a special guest review.

PSXE User Review Contest: The Readers Choose Another Winner

It was close, but another winner of our So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest has been chosen.

The last leg of the contest consisted of a more specific angle: The amateur critic would have to pen a great analysis of a fall title and of course, it would have to fall into PSXE's wheelhouse; i.e., the game would have to be available on a PlayStation platform.

As usual, we let the readers decide the very best submission and although it was once again very close, the winner is-

TGSA for his Borderlands 2 review . Congrats!

Now he just needs to email me at bdutka[at]psxextreme.com with a functioning US mailing address, and I'll give away a free game. He'll have the option of quite a few available titles, including XCOM: Enemy Unknown , Need for Speed: Most Wanted , several Vita games, and more. So long as I've got stuff to give away (which is pretty much all the time), we'll run more user review contests; it's a great way for the community to contribute, and it always proves that we've got some very knowledgeable and informed peeps as PSXE regulars.

User reviews usually suck. Ours…not so much. 😉

User Review Contest: Who Was The Most Skilled Critic?

Okay, it's time to select another winner in our ongoing So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest.

The latest was a little more restricting, as we wanted you to write a review of one of this fall's titles . There are plenty of games available for autumn, of course, but we usually let you write a review for any game you wish. That's just too darn easy!

Seven of you stepped up to deliver an entry and now it's time for the community to decide: Who wrote the best analysis? Here is each user and his review; check 'em out and then vote in the poll on the right. Who impressed you most?

Gorilla Biscuit, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

Mdash009, Borderlands 2

TGSA, Borderlands 2

Temjin001, Dead or Alive 5

Dirt, Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Cartrite12, Okami HD

dmiitrie, XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Whoever receives the most votes this week will a free game and trust me, I have a goodly selection. I can't guarantee I'll have exactly the title you're looking for but hey, it's free . Can't go wrong, right? Good luck!

Win A Copy Of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Or Another Prize…

Update: Just so everyone knows, this deadline has been extended through this weekend. I'm just wicked busy. 🙂

Original Story:

During such a busy time of year, wouldn't you like to snag a free game?

In the latest iteration of our So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest, you can win a copy of the excellent XCOM: Enemy Unknown or maybe, just maybe, there's something else I have that you want…

Just follow the contest rules via the link above and submit a user review. But here's the twist- The review must be for a fall title; the starting cut-off point is Borderlands 2 , which launched on September 18. it can be for any game that has released this autumn thus far, and it has to be for one of the PlayStation platforms (obviously). As per normal, the 10 best submissions will go up in a weekly poll, so the community can vote on the best review. If there are more than 10, I'll pick the best; if there are less, all will be included in the voting.

You've got one week to write and submit your review; deadline is Thursday, November 8.

Please just remember that you must be a resident of the US to be eligible to win; I just can't ship outside the country. And to get an idea of what else might be available, you might want to check this update . Maybe I'll even have LittleBigPlanet Karting or Sports Champions 2 or Assassin's Creed III: Liberation …hmmm… Good luck! 🙂

PSXE Poll Update: Downloadable Games Are Entitled To GotY

Downloadable games may not have the budget and may not aspire to vast, epic greatness.

Nevertheless, the majority of PSXE readers believe digital titles have every right to be considered among the year's best. In our recent poll, most said a fantastic experience like Journey deserved to be ranked among the elite; they'd have no problem with Thatgamecompany's subtle masterpiece winning this industry's most prestigious honor: Game of the Year. We don't have any problem with it, either. It just might happen, too, unless Assassin's Creed III or other titles impress the hell out of us.

This week, it's once again time to select the best User Review for our So You Think You Can Review Video Games user review contest. We didn't get as many submissions this time around (not a heck of a lot of games being released this time of year), so that's why there are fewer to choose from. But for the record, no matter how many we get in the future, I'm only going to select five (at most ) rather than ten for the final community poll. There are two reasons for this:

Firstly, I think it's too much to ask the community to read ten reviews to make a decision. I mean, people have lives and we should probably acknowledge that. Secondly, we want everyone to get better at writing these reviews and the longer the contest goes, the higher the quality should be. Hence, the competition should get stiffer. Gotta impress!

Also, don't forget, follow the links to see all available prizes. I'm throwing in Spec Ops: The Line as well but…uh…I wouldn't recommend it.
