Hey, everyone remember when Phantasy Star Online was one of the games for the Dreamcast?
Well, the series has continued on in various incarnations since those days, and the latest title has been announced for the PC in Japan. Interestingly enough, as revealed on Friday, Phantasy Star Online 2 will also be coming to the PlayStation Vita.
Initially, it was only confirmed for the PC but a new video (see it below) confirms that the Vita version of the new MMO will be ready to go next year. It also seems as if Vita and PC users will be able to play together in the engaging fantasy world, which is great news for fans. However, as you might expect, there's no word on whether or not PSO2 will come to North America. One might say the chances are slim, but you never know…maybe if it sells well enough in Japan…
I never got into PSO back in the old days. But I do know people who got hooked by that game; they claimed to spend hundreds of hours with it, and it was quite the phenomenon that they were going online with a console in that "old" generation. …see, "old" to me is like Atari.
I never got it for my Dreamcast yet, but I do have the PSO Episode 1 & 2 disc in my original Xbox collection.
But since I've never gone online until this gen's consoles, I've haven't tried it, plus since it looks like RPG to me, PSO and myself, probably wouldn't get along too well together
Phantasy Star II is one of the greatest RPG of any generation.
Why does it have to be online? Why can't they make an epic Phantasy Star that's SP?
There is a game that won't sell in the US.
THere are mobile games on android and iOS that sell for $0.99 and are better than Phantasy Star in any form.
The original PSO is still played online on PC, so it's possible it may sell well hopefully. It was one of the better early MMO's so I'll definitely try the new one when/if it comes here.
I wouldn't mind trying that game out, I never wen't online with the PS2 Version (If Memory serves) you had to pay.(?)
PSO was never on the PS2 from what I remember, so I think you mean Phantasy Star Universe, and yes it had a monthly fee as well.
MMO on the vita?
hmmmmm, something tells me this is not going to do too well.
thed be much better off turning it into a single player story driven game, then relying on constant online connection and massive people playing at once.
especially with the vitas pathetic battery life!
unless you have a portable power station in your pocket that is………
I got phantasy star online for the ds, but only played about 20% of it. Looks like I'm going to have to sell/trade that one in. This latest installment right here looks freaking awesome. No I don't have a vita yet, but I do plan on getting one.
I've always loved the 99 marketing gimmick. Especially when it's combined with the 3 easy payment trick. When they advertise a product for 3 easy payments of 39.99 a person says "hey, it's basically just 30 bucks" because they focus on the 3. They don't even think once about multiple payments either and never realize that a '30 dollar product' just ran them about 120 bucks. Expensive ass cheese grader, no? Hey, it would be kind of nice if Sony would accept a payment plan. That's about the only way I see myself affording a PS4 before they drop to $300 or less. Ahem, I mean $299 🙂
I have learned my lesson with next gen gaming. I wait 1 year before I buy the new console. I am pretty happy with my PS3 and have no need for a PS4 day 1. Look at the PS3, the first years of the PS3 a few solid PS2 games came to the market. I loved GOW 2 and it was better then a lot of the Next Gen games at the moment.
But a price of 400 – 449 euro sounds reasonable..
