Sea of Thieves has skyrocketed the live-service pirate adventure to #2 in US sales amid the recent PlayStation 5 release. This game is a “key test” for Microsoft of dabbling in releasing more of its first-party games to other platforms.
As reported by Circana’s Mat Piscatella on Twitter, the game finished in second place of its weekly best-seller tracking. Previously, the former Xbox exclusive was stuck at #36 based on the previous week’s data. It’s not too shocking that a re-release has led to a massive surge in sales, but such a spike is impressive.
We can’t help but feel this will lead to Microsoft releasing its other exclusives to alternative platforms down the line.
Sea of Thieves is having a great start on PlayStation 5 in the US market. The game finished at #2 in Circana's weekly best-sellers tracking during w/e Apr 27th, up from #36 the previous week. Sea of Thieves officially launched on Apr 30th but had early access start Apr 25th.
