Beyond Good & Evil 2: Another Great Next-Gen Prospect?

Last week, we considered the possibility of seeing The Last Guardian release for the PS4 .

And when it comes to projects that appear to be taking a very long time, it's always fun to consider: Might they be made (or remade) for the next generation of hardware? Perhaps a top candidate for that interesting theory is Ubisoft's long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 .

Having been unveiled several years ago at a Ubidays event, fans of the original have waited patiently for news of the sequel. Unfortunately, the only updates we had were vague; we were told it's "still in development," while other sources claimed the project had been placed on hold. So these days, everyone wants to ask creator Michel Ancel the same question. Nintendo Power tried but only got the following in response :

"[Laughs] I think the Wii U GamePad could be used nicely as a camera… [Laughs] No, to be honest, I’m really focused on Rayman Legends right now. I’m surprised how much of our energy it’s taking because I expected it to be an easier game to make. But because of the Wii U GamePad, we’re really focusing on this one. I can’t talk about what the next game will before us because it’s not set in stone yet, so I guess I don’t have a better answer for you. Sorry! [Laughs]"

At this rate, there seems to be little chance that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be here any time soon. And we really have no idea how far along developers got; maybe they didn't get very far at all, which would make it even more likely that the game comes out for next-gen consoles. However, that being said, we really hope it isn't exclusive to the Wii U, special GamePad or not. I'm sorry, but that would kinda suck, especially as the original was available on the PS2 and Xbox.
