It was one of several hot new PlayStation 4 exclusives announced during December's PlayStation Experience event.
And in point of fact, it represented the return of a canceled PS3 exclusive: Team Ninja's anticipated Ni-Oh has been resurrected!
So, what has been going on with the game this whole time? Has it been shelved for over a decade? Well, Koei Tecmo President Yoichi Erikawa told 4Gamer (as cited by WCCF Tech ) that the game originally ran into some issues, such as difficulty in deciding genre. As it turns out, they were torn between straight-up action and action/role-playing.
Then, after the merger with Tecmo, Koei went to Team Ninja and asked them to create a game that was significantly different from Dynasty Warriors . Unfortunately, they made an adventure that was too much like Ninja Gaiden , which isn't what the original developer wanted. So, they started from scratch again. What you saw at the PlayStation Experience is actually the third iteration of the project, and it has taken a "more hardcore direction." Erikawa now compares Ni-Oh to the challenging Demon's Souls .
Well, that might be just what From Software aficionados want: A game that seems to be a blend of Demon's Souls and Bloodborne . Me, I still get a distinct Onimusha vibe from the trailer…
Related Game(s): Ni-oh
I'd play all of em, save the DW version honestly…
I definitely see some elements of Dark Souls and as you stated Onimusha as well. It looks interesting for sure and as a big Souls fan I would be interested in following the game and seeing how it develops.
I personally think they may want to change the name of the game at least in the west to make it more attractive.
"Have you played Ni-Oh?" — "What is that?" >_>
Sounds too close to "ni No" which is a game of another unrested Kuni.
Yeah that was unsmart.
And I will relentlessly throw hate its way 🙂
