David Hayter: For The Last Time, No, I’m Not In MGSV

For many years, there was only one voice for Solid Snake: David Hayter.

That's why the long-time fans were a little miffed when they learned that for the first time in franchise history, Hayter wouldn't reprise his legendary role in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . Konami and Kojima went with accomplished "24" actor Kiefer Sutherland instead.

However, the fans wouldn't be deterred. They've been wondering if Hayter might take another role in the game, just so it would still feel like good ol' MGS. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen, as Hayter was awfully blunt on Twitter :

"Guys, for the millionth–and last–time. I am not in Metal Gear V. In any way. At all. No joke. Just not. True story."

Kojima said that because MGSV is a "new type of Metal Gear game," they wanted to have the actor reflect this change as well. Ah well, such is the way. Sorry, guys.

First time I played Metal Gear Solid 3 in 2004 and it's amazing story in front of my family. They loved it and the story but the voice of snake was weird for them. They said it does not suite him. Then after some time I played it in Japanese with the amazing voice of akio otsuka and they loved it and I agree.
I wondered one day if they can change the lead voice actor for snake for the english audience and finally they did but I still play Metal Gear Solid Games in Japanese.

When I played Ground Zeroes for the first time I was like… who the **** is speaking? Oh god please… no .. SNAAAAAAAAKE lol…

David Hayter seems very upset by gamers asking him a lot of times. I think it'll take awhile to get used to the new voice. I still think they should have used Richard Doyle >_>

I'm surprised they didn't go with Richard Doyle. Keifer Sutherland sounds horrible as snake :/.

Richard Doyle would've been ideal. But if it not him, they should have got someone not as well known as F'NG Jack Bauer. Not too mention Keifer probably costs a ton of money. Like, what the hell?

Kiefer Sutherland sounds like Jack Bauer from 24 oh wait……What were you thinking Hideo ? So each time a game changes direction the lead actor changes voice. Hmmmmm so a new God Of War game a new Kratos sounding voice. I understand if it being a new character then it's obviously going to be a new voice.

Oh well you were good while you were Snake David Hayter, hope he gets used now in other games instead.

He does the voice of the male Jedi Knight in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Kiefer's alright as Naked Snake.. just as long as they keep David Hayter as Solid/Old Snake's voice next (incase of MG1+2 remake), I'll be happy instead of tolerate on the choice.

When I hear Keifer I picture Keifer, that's the problem.

I think Hayter deserved the role until death or retirement.

I bet he's in the game still. Like, maybe as someone else. Not really sure what though, but these responses sound like a kid saying "No! I did not hit her!!" even though they clearly did.

Big Boss…vs Solid Snake there's a difference. However David Hayter certainly did both characters.

…I really would be happy to see him suddenly come out in the end of MGS V as Solid Snake and all…but considering how much he's denying it I guess I lost my hopes.

I love the guy. Sutherland is cool, but gosh he's not Snake…I just hear as tlpn99 said…Jack BAUER.

I can't wait to see the interrogation scenes in the Phantom Pain, will definitely just be another 24 episode.

Have you guys seen David Hayter at panels and all? He freaking loves his fans.

David Hayter is Solid Snake, first and foremost. Changing the voice of Big Boss makes sense because of the potential of a MG1/MG 2 remake. Hayter simply said he's not in MGSV, so either he's fakin' it, and the events of Phantom Pain will bleed into the MG 1 story, or he's being legit but Kojima's magnum opus will come later with a game that brings Big Boss and Solid Snake together center stage (not as a final scene like in MGS4).

"Guys, for the millionth – and last – time, I've signed an NDA with Konami so even if I really wanted to tell you I was playing Snake and they just needed someone else for Big Boss there's no way Kojima would let me spoil that, so stop asking and just pretend to be surprised when you get the game"
