30 Minutes Of Phantom Pain Gameplay Will Make Your Day

It's our best look yet at the anticipated title.

Those who attended E3 got a chance to see a full half-hour of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in action; it was a closed-door presentation featuring plenty of footage and commentary.

Now, it has arrived on the Internet. The video highlights several significant characters in the game's story, along with the dynamic weather system, various gameplay mechanics, and a look at how the developers seamlessly transition between gameplay and cut-scene. The footage was captured on a PS4 and the designers claim it's running at 1080p/60fps, which is pretty darn impressive. It's too bad that we have to wait a while for this one…

Kojima can say he's "depressed" about Grand Theft Auto V but really, this is awesome.

Oooh plenty details to notice here, this looks *good*.

I love how the camera is "wobbly" during the cutscenes, like it's handheld as opposed to the more common digital perfection glides. Very sweet detail.

Also, using the game engine rendering the cut-scenes in real time gives them the possibility to transfer seamlessly between cut scenes and the game. Let's hope that becomes the norm now.

I think MGS has always used in game engine for the cutscenes. And since MGS4 was one of the first, if not THE first game (a year and some change before ND did it in UC2) to ever transition from cutscene directly to gameplay, that being included in this masterpiece is a certainty

I kind of recall MGS4 to be at least partially pre-rendered, but I might be wrong. The scenes were so endlessly long, poorly directed and with so much meaningless dialogue that I usually did other stuff while they went on.

The best transitions I've seen between in-game render of cut scenes and the game is Mass Effect 3. That really was seamless and super-slick.

I was half awake when I saw this article. The moment I saw that the gameplay was posted I jumped up so fast to turn on my ps4 so I can watch it! Kojima is slowly killing his fans! It looks so amazing! How fluid the gameplay is. The draw distance. Graphics. Fan boy very satisfied. All we need is an official release date now.

How much detail about the story is revealed? This isn't an over the top spoiler is it? As a full blown Metal Gear fan I'm going to wait till this evening to watch this.

I don't have a clue who anyone is in this game. Am I the only one around these parts that's never been into the MGS series?

Metal gear is a very complicated, complex, game to follow. If you aren't there from the beginning don't bother. I can guarantee you without a doubt that MGS is the best series in videogames.

Having not played it I can't make a valid opinion but I'd have to say I believe Final Fantasy is the greatest videogame series. Though if we are talking connected story lines I'd go with Half-Life though I'm extremely biased when it comes to that franchise.

I've heard the MGS is convoluted and there are times I want to pick up from the beginning and try it out but I end up eating ice cream or something.

I do something similar when I try to play Final Fantasy.

I don't see how you're unable to pick up and play a FF game since a vast majority of them aren't connected at all so it's not like you cant just randomly choose one to play. Perhaps you're not a fan of JRPGs?

Don't slap Metal Gear with the convoluted brush just because you haven't bothered to keep up with the story. Play MGS3 & Peace Walker with the MGS HD Collection, the Ground Zeroes and you'll see how it makes sense and is ever so engaging.

I hate it when people class Metal Gear as convoluted, it seems they just mistake all the depth of the narrative. Metal Gears Saga is so deep and the quality of the storytelling is consistently superior to almost every other gaming series. A series like Kingdom. Hearts deserves to be called convoluted, with all that nonsense of Roxas and Sora dreaming, it's just so pointlessly complicated, Kingdom Hearts 1 still being the peak of the series for me. But I play Metal Gear just as I do any great JRPG for the engaging story and characters, even over Metal Gear's solid gameplay.

Just imagine how it was for me to be introduced to the series with MGS4.

I just gave up, sneaked around while it was fun and then threw it back to the shelve.

Yeah. I'm not a fan of JRPG's. I did enjoy Persona 4 Golden though and Pokemon back in my younger days. That is about it.

Oh starting the series with MGS4 is a huge mistake… It's the last game in the stories chronology 😛 I can imagine what that must have been like o_o I remember playing Kingdom Hearts 2 after missing out on the GBA game and the game was just so baffling, even after playing KH1. I have played KH: Chain of Memories since and get it more now, but that first KH2 playthrough was awful.

still really worried with this.
open world stealth games just DO NOT work, it really did not work with GZ and this is suppose to be even more open so its just going to make things worse.
i wish he would stop trying to reinvent the wheel and stick with things that work.
inventions all well and good, but trying to make things into things that just dont work is not.
nor is invention for the sake of invention.
improvement, fine.
but what was wrong with MGS4 that it needed to go open world to be better?
