E3 2007: God of War: Chains of Olympus Impressions

The first thing that grabbed my attention when I walked inside Sony's arcade stage after their press conference was the booth of PSP games. As I walked around it, I immediately spotted God of War: Chains of Olympus and picked it up without sparing a thought.

As many others felt, my first thought was "holy crap does this game look great". You lay your eyes on God of War for the PSP, and you wonder just how strong the PSP really is. The best way to describe the game's visuals is by simply stating that they're about on par with the original God of War – and that is a stupendous feat for the PSP.

The gameplay continues to be seamless, with combos that can be string as effortlessly as ever before. There are no differences in feel, so the PSP game and the console versions play almost identically. Thus, God of War plays remarkably well on the PSP, and anybody who has even the slightest bit of hesitation should throw their worries out of the way.

Just like a God of War game should be, Chains of Olympus features a large scale with vast environments and, of course, ginormous boss battles. Best of all, even though the game is chock full of action, chaos, and a bunch of enemies on screen, the framerate was rock solid the whole time – and that's great.

Make no mistake about it, this is God of War in the same prime that we've been playing it on the PlayStation 2. If you're a fan of the PS2 games, then you absolutely must set your sights for the PSP game. If you don't own a PSP yet, this is the game that'll sell you on one.
