Alien Syndrome Infects Wii, PSP

Well, despite the name, this one isn't one of the two "next-gen" games Sega promised after landing the Aliens license. But it's still good news for gamers.

Not long after that announcement, Sega revealed another title: Alien Syndrome , a game for both the Wii and PSP, loosely based on the world in those Alien movies. The game tells the story of a heroine who single-handedly faces down a nasty race of outer-space baddies…er…haven't we seen this scenario somewhere before?

No, no, Alien Syndrome is actually based on the classic Sega arcade game, released on home consoles in the late '80s. This new title should arrive for both the Wii and PSP in the summer of 2007, and is technically labeled as an "action/RPG." It's being developed by Totally Games, a team best known for their work on the X-Wing series for the PC.

You'll suit up as Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding, and you'll get tossed into battle versus over 100 different types of aliens. Thankfully, Harding will obtain new abilities and skills as she progresses through the chaos, and she'll have access to 20 different weapons. What will you have to accompany your alien-ass-kicking travels? Oh, the typical futuristic arsenal: quad-barreled lasers, nanobot swarms, and fun flamethrowers.

Heck, you'll even get the assistance of an invincible robot ally that helps out in battle and acts as a merchant for the sale of items and upgrades. The PSP version will feature co-op play for up to four players through the system's Wi-Fi option. As for the Wii version…will the Wii-mote play a significant role in the gameplay?

Well, we'll keep an eye on Alien Syndrome and bring you any updates as soon as they become available.
