Atlus Confirms Persona 4 For Vita, 2D Spin-Off Fighter

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 was a fantastic game.

And that's why we're excited to learn that Atlus is preparing a port of the game for the PlayStation Vita. Plus, Arc System Works is cranking on an interesting spin-off effort.

The BlazBlue developer will produce a 2D fighting game based on the Persona series; it'll be called "Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena" and release next spring in the Japanese arcades. A PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version is set for summer.

As for the Vita version of Persona 4 , that will boast a new character (Mary), more voice performances, and new cut-scenes. We'll even get a wireless support feature so players can call upon friends when their party is close to death. This port for the Vita will be out in the spring in Japan.

Lastly, Atlus has confirmed that Persona 5 is in development; series director Katsura Hashino is back, as are Shigenori Soejima (lead character designer) and Shoji Meguro (music composer).

You can guarantee it won't be thanks to them testing 360 waters with that fighting game.

Wow, about time! Although I haven't gotten to play any of the SMT:Persona games except for the 1st one on the PSP, I have all the others. I've been wanting to get to them, but my backlog is too big. It's good to know that Atlus has continued with series, and if I remember correctly, SMT:P2 is coming to PSP, so I can literally play 1-4 on the go, which isn't too bad! SMT:P5 on the PS3 is great, as I've been wanting Atlus to move to the current gen with this series.

I think I'm going to have to invest in a Persona game sooner or later.

I've played 3 and 4, they are really cool and very different. It's like a jrpg that's also a slice of life drama/relationship and friendship simulator. How you handle your ties to your friends and women affects your personas and thus skills in battle.

They're turning it into an FPS actually. I wonder how you will shoot yourself in the head to unleash your Persona? Maybe they'll have to change it so that you shoot yourself in the foot…

@WorldEndsWithMe
It's a little too early to say "turn based". The way things are right now… who knows.

@ZenChichiri
There was no shooting yourself in the head in p4 and I doubt they will bring it back [sadly].
