More Evidence Supports US Fall Date For PlayStation Vita

There has been plenty of evidence to support a fall 2011 North American launch date for the PlayStation Vita.

And while it officially has a "TBA" release window, another piece of evidence has arrived, courtesy of a 505 Games press release . It lists MMA: Supremacy for the Vita with a fall 2011 launch date; in fact, it's right in the headline- "Supremacy MMA Takes the Fight to the Streets with PlayStation Vita This Fall." Later, it refers to the Vita's release as "Holiday 2011." However, MCV has heard from 505 Games, and the clarification is that the Vita launch date is "only speculative." That's very neat but press releases usually don't include "speculation" unless they tell us it's speculation.

But anyway, that's just a thought. We hope the Vita arrives on US shores this holiday season 'cuz obviously, there aren't enough games to play. …oh crap, yeah, there are .

That thing better be on my doorstep before next year…I hope, Amazon has a December 31st release date, and the estimated arrival as January 3rd. Anyway, will you be getting one mr Shepard?

Nintendo is also massively slashing their 3DS price–that didn't take long. ouch!
Some suggest this is in response to the impending Vita.

Yeah the 3ds is 169.99 starting august 12 lol, hopefully the PS Vita arrives this year though.

I heard about that! They must have realized it wasn't very special and has no new games in the foreseeable future.

I would imagine that it's a combination of factors. It sounds like sales for the 3DS had fallen through the floor. And, Nintendo fanboy though I am, the 3DS really couldn't compete at the price point/hardware advantage/launch lineup that the Vita is looking to be bringing to the table. However, that being said, with the rush of games this holiday (MarioKart, Super Mario and Kid Icarus) and the massive price cut I can imagine Nintendo getting back into the saddle, or at least, something like that. $250's a bit steep for a handheld gaming system, in spite of the value that the Vita has, and I wonder if the general public will take to it. We'll see.

I think everyone thought the price was just way too high. Especially coming from nintendo. Hoefully whatever price they thought they could cook up for the Wii U isn't going to be as high as they may have projected. I really think Nintendo can't move out from the corner they're in. I know they're scared of Apple and mobile tablets, but can't they trust in the software brand recognition that is only found on their platform? Like PC's, the tablet and phone market is a sort of smorgasbord of content. It's not really focused and it's hard to identify where the quality is at. Nintendo's major mascots can at least offer prospective buyers a level of buying confidence not found on more open and wild growing formats. Believe in that, and nevermind the 3D. Let Sony play at that. That's their business.

The slashing of the 3DS price is not related to Vita. It's related to what amounts to a flop, and they're trying to rescue it.

I'm not going to get one too soon. After the epic fail that was the PSPGo I'm thinking I'm going to wait for the games to show up before investing in the hardware.

I wont either, but I wouldn't compare it to a stripped down PSP so fast.

Looks like a lot of people can't wait to get their vita-mins. I'll have to get one eventually if JRPGs stay handheld but I'm more interested in it as a later purchase for the gadget geek in me versus the gamer in me. I just hope it has netflix capability.

If it has Netflix capabilities, I'll probably make a mess. That and a Kindle like Data Plan.

you guys do realize who the 3g data provider is right?, haven't you learned anything from the iphone?, the only killer feature that would make me buy a 3g Vita is if it had a find my device feature. As for Netflix it just might have it. I mean the 3ds has it, why not the big V.

No I never paid attention to who the 3G provider is, I only need wifi.

I don't quite understand why everyone gripes about at&t being a terrible provider, I mean I have been using them for about 8 years now and I have never had a dropped call and the 3g works fine wherever I seem to be.

@BTN: yeah me either, I have AT&T also, but what everyone thinks is that they will be able to do a whole bunch of stuff over 3g. But AT&T , at least on the iPhone, has a download limit of 20 MB when it comes to purchasing music, videos, apps.

This should be a warning to sony regarding nintendos massive jason vorhees price slash. 3DS is obviously selling bad due to its price for a hand held and i highly doubt it parents will be rushing to drop $249 on a vita at launch. I do plan on getting a vita but after seeing 3DS struggle and slash its price massively so fast i may wait a bit if vitas sell slow like nintendo sony may drop vitas price also. btw i play my friends 3DS its a sweet piece of equipment i didnt realise it was flopping badly i cant see why ppl dont like/buy it??

Dude, don't treat the Vita as if it were the same as the 3ds.

WorldEndsWithMe

I think 3DS just doesn't have the software to push it at its price point. It would be pretty strange for Nintendo to slash the price just because people didn't like it. People didn't like the PS3 price either but Sony was losing money anyway on it and had to wait until price cuts were possible.

for the first time i can remember it looks like nintendo is vulnerable in the handheld sector. it kind of reminds me of the situation the ps3 was in at first. not enough games and at a high price point. that gave ms an oppurtunity and they were able to wrestle away a lot of sony's marketshare. maybe sony will be able to pull off something similar and capture a lot of nintendo's marketshare in the handheld realm. it certainly seems possible.

i think one thing is clear from this gen of gaming. if you offer a product at what consumers feel is too high of a price without the software to back it up they will turn on companies really fast despite how popular their past systems were. consumers will just defer a purchase or turn to the competition entirely.

Getting one, getting one, getting one. My whole 3DS experience consisted of going to a shop, having a play, thinking "huh, 3D…" and that was about it.
Vita looks like a powerhouse, tho I'm far from sold on 3G. Thinking WiFi only.
