The PSP feels a little outdated, especially after seeing that PlayStation Vita presentation at E3 this year.
It was the clear focus of Sony's press conference and based on our latest poll, the "PSP2" went over quite well with viewers.
The majority actually say they'll snag the fancy new portable unit the instant it releases, and most of the rest say they'll get it eventually. While the world continues to advance and everything seems to be getting smaller, mobile gaming gets more popular with every passing day. And besides, when you have the power of a PlayStation 3 in your hands (just an estimate, of course), that's all the more reason to give next-gen handheld gaming a try. Those touch-pads are pretty interesting, too.
This week, after the debut of our PSXE Show in PlayStation Home, we want to know what you think. The only reason we do it is for the readers and fans, so if we need to fix it, we need to know. Also, bear in mind that we'll be asking you what you want in the future; i.e., what sort of content you'd like to see. Right now, we're just handling that ourselves but we want you to be involved as well.
Lastly, stay tuned for news of the second episode. Depending on how fast we can get the third show done, the second might be up by this Thursday…
Day 1 hopefully for me.
Anybody know if it will be able to support flash and watch youtube videos?
What about Apps? Does it do 1080p?

No confirmed news about Flash support, so nobody can answer you on that question yet. And as for 1080p, I doubt it. I myself don't see the point of having that very high resolution on a 5-inch screen. The fact that there's no HDMI output (let alone a video out option) should also be telling.
The native resolution of the screen is 540p. Rumors suggest it can process (and downscale) 720p, but that is unconfirmed. PSP could (eventually) downscale 480p video to its 272p screen, so I bet it's possible.
You'd be crazy to store videos in 1080p on the Vita, though, when the actual screen is 1/4 that size. File's too big.

The GPU in the device is capable of 1080p playback. Manmy mobile GPUs are capable of that playback, but they then have to scale for the screensize. The thing is, to store video in the 540p mode the Vita uses uses 25% or less of the storage needed for something in 1080p, so why waste all that space storing video in 1080p and then scaling it down to 540p? Instead, store four times as much content at 540p and let the GPU do less, burn less battery and enjoy your movie at the native screen resolution.
@ High
Isn't that what I said? How come you get the thumbs-up?
;P

Not sure Fane, I wasn't intending to stand on your toes or anything. I was replying to the post higher up, and only read yours after I posted.
I mentioned the point about the chipset being 1080p capable because a lot of the mobile chipsets can playback in 1080p, but the displays can't handle it. That's hardly revolutionary information though, so I don't know. Perhaps they were compensating for the pointless downvotes elsewhere?
Already got a pre-order on mine with $100 paid off so far. Going to get the 3G model to have all my bases covered.
Do we know how much the 3G connectivity is going to cost per month?
No pricing yet. But I rather have the ability to use it, if I want to.
is it true the vita won't feature a video out?. blank line told me that. i don't know how true it is.
Yup, there's no video out on the PSVita.
if it does have the same connector as the psp go, which apparently it does then the composite and component cables should work for it.
Can't be affording this for a long time probably. Can I scrape together $250? sure but then I'll want all the games. So now I suppose there is no reason for JRPGs to ever be on consoles 🙁
I hope it has netflix capability.
I guess I can't vote in this poll as there's no option for those who were unable to attend the first time. Feels weird, I've never missed a poll.
i would love to see a show on your favourite rpg's. you could walk us through a list and tell us what you think makes them great. i did enjoy your show even though i had trouble hearing your brother somewhat.
YES! That's a great idea, especially for seomone like me who is sort of discovering many of the older ones for the first time. RPGs FTW! =D
PSVita!! Totally excited. I wish Final Fantasy Type-0 was on Vita instead as a launch title. =^.^=
I didn't attend the PSXE show but is there a video of it I can watch?
At the rate of development on that title it probably will be for Vita.
He say is going to be on the youtube channel later.
I'd love to see it on PSV. And if you go on PSHome its still up and running if the link for youtube isnt posted.
Claire,
I believe you still go into the Community Theater in Home, and still see it until Sony makes up a new reel.
That reel goes in a continual loop right back to the start, so if you don't catch the PSXE show right away, just kick back in one of the comfy seats with some virtual popcorn and await the show.
The PSXE video will stay in the Community Theater even after Thursday (when new videos will be added); it will just be pushed to later in the loop. However, it may be removed if Ben's second video gets added.
You should watch it before Thursday if you don't want to sit through other videos, though.
I actually find that portable gaming is far handier and easier to play around with at any random time you feel like gaming.
Very few people have spare time, so short bursts of high quality gaming is becoming very popular, and that's where the Vita will thrive. Playing half hour bursts of MGS Peacewalker or God of War on my PSP was the freakin bomb, and in bed too!! Had FF VII, VIII and IX stored on a memory stick too for portable gaming goodness.
I traded my PSP several months ago at the first announcement of the NGP (now Vita). Thought it best to get my 100 bucks trade value while the PSP was still good.
With Uncharted, Littlebig Planet, Modnation Racers, Killzone, Resistance and Street Fighter X Tekken coming to the Vita, suddenly the 3DS and Ocarina of Time 3D doesn't seem worth the cash. Waiting for Super Mario, Mario Kart, Star Fox 64, Kid Icarus, price drop and bigger battery model of 3DS before worth purchasing. 2014 mid year sale might be my Nintendo splurge. 😛
PSvita… 2012 birthday present. Mmmmm… birthday can't come fast enough now!!!
I hate short bursts of gaming, feels incomplete. Like reading a single page of a book then putting it away.
worlds, it depends on the game. If it's a game you can dip in and out of, why not?
Already pre-ordered and am waiting for the actual release date to be announced.
I already have half of it paid off on preorder.
really looking forward to getting my filthy hands on it!
was going to get one, but then sonys piss poor customer service!
rang them again today since they were suppose to ring me on wednesday but surprise surprise dident.
they STILL havent had a look into it!
2 f*cking weeks and they have done jack sh*t!
last time i rang they said it would be sorted within 48 hours, not 2 f*cking weeks and counting!
cant f*cking believe this, its been going around in circles since f*cking january!
6 f*cking months (and counting) to sort 1 f*cking account out!
unbelieveable!
i think i do have to take this to court only way im going to get anywhere!
while im at it might as well file separate law suits over my infamous 2 hero edition, and PSN+ subscription too.
and they say M$ has poor customer support!
my god, not even lucifer himself could give such poor customer support!
then removing the video out feature was another poor decision, cant believe they did that!
as i said yesterday whats the point of having such a powerful system but restrict it to such a crappy screen?
might as well hire a crane to lift a leaf!
as for home, well wasted like 1GB downloading all the crap so i could visit the E3 space and watch the conference,to be greeted by a sexy black screen for 2 hours so im done with home for good!
got better things to waste my download usage on!

The reputation from a week's worth of good, constructive posts squandered in a single bound. Well done.
You know if your communication style here is any indication of your communication style with Sony, it's no wonder you have difficulties. I suspect they're sitting there shaking their heads wondering what the hack they've done to deserve you.
______________,
I just think Sony had seen all your negative posts aimed at them & they've decided to permanently put you on……."ignore".
Actually my experience with ps support is horrible too.
When I had to get service on my ps3 they even lost my entire box somewhere in the system and I had to get the manager at the shop where I delivered the machine to call them – they refused to talk to me, insisted on the shop calling them. And then they told him that my machine simply was lost, no sign of it.
I got a new machine eventually, but not before waiting a *long* time, we talk about many, many weeks here.
So I bought a Slim in the meantime. 😀
By contrast, I had great service both times I had to send my PS3 for repairs.
It really is tough to imagine why ________ wouldn't receive good customer service.
Not voted on the PSXE Home Theatre thing yet as being in Europe I have not been able to see it. I need to set up an American PSN account. I am assuming that by going into the theatre in Europe Home means you can't see it ? Shame really cos I wanted to watch it.
I am waiting on the Vita to see what it's like when it first comes out, if it's not for me then I wont buy it. Uncharted looks great on it though.
Yeah me too, has no idea what they talk about with this poor audio of the brother of Ben (?) and quite frankly that's annoying me. 😀
Why isn't "can't see it" an option in the poll? You got readers from the entire world, psxe! Not just the USA!
