Ben-DutkaAs part of their big NGP unveiling , Sony also revealed a very interesting new endeavor called the "PlayStation Suite."
Revealed officially via press release, this will deliver "the PlayStation experience to Android-based portable devices." In other words, people will be able to enjoy Sony-oriented content on platforms outside the PlayStation universe for the first time in the history of the brand.
The number of mobile users has increased significantly over the years – duh – and by offering "PlayStation quality content" to such a market, SCE will be able to hit up consumers around the globe. In addition, Sony will start the PlayStation Certified license program for hardware manufacturers; through that program, SCE "will offer necessary support, including development support as well as logo licensing."
The first content to hit the PS Suite will arrive this year, and it'll consist of original (PS1) PlayStation games. These classics will be playable on Android-based portable devices, and users will also be able to access the PlayStation Store and download content, directly to their Android-based unit. And yes, the PS Suite will encompass that nifty Next Generation Portable, too, so it's sorta like PlayStation will be everywhere by the end of 2011. Talk about a big step.
