Kojima “Taking Charge” Of Peace Walker’s Game Design

One would think that big-budget projects with a ton of talented people would involve group-wide brainstorming. Well, maybe not so much when your boss is Hideo Kojima.

According to CVG citing a new interview in the Official PlayStation Magazine, Kojima said that in regards to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker , "not so many ideas come from the staff." Most of the ideas, like the Co-op Ring and Love Box, come straight from the master and the team then works to implement them. "I am taking charge of the overall game design," Kojima finished, which is probably good news. He has said in the past that he plans to be heavily involved in the making of this PSP title, as he considers it to be a true installment in the long-running MGS franchise. On the flip side, he's only assuming a sort of overseeing, managerial role in the development of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the PS3 and Xbox 360, which will be more action-oriented. He has even commented on the progress of the "younger team" involved with the latter title, and one can tell by his tone and statements that he's not directly associated with the creation of that game. Peace Walker , on the other hand…well, that's Kojima's new baby, obviously. And in all honesty, does anyone here have a problem with the situation?

Heck, if I was on a design team and Kojima said to me, "hey, how about we do this," I believe my response would be, "yes sir, that sounds like a damn good idea."

I don't like gaming on a small screen. I would rather read a book while traveling, commuting.

Remote play IMO is still the best reason to own a PSP, I use it almost everyday.

My only problem is the anxiety I have with PS3 games such as Metal Gear getting watered down by the 360.

No risk of that happening to this PSP *exclusive* title…

I just hope that the spin off Metal Gear (Rising) isn't going to ruin the franchise's name. I honestly keep thinking that the spin off was created so that the Metal Gear name could get on the 360. Game might not even be necessary honestly, like the Dragonball Evolution movie.

I have to say Kojima reminds me a bit of the great composers like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc. He has his vision and he just uses the team to implement it.

Take care.

Anyone else get the feeling that Kojima didn't want to make Rising in the first place? Also, I would be willing to bet that somehow, some way Microsoft had their money involved with Konami's common sense and made it to where whatever Metal Gear game came out for consoles next had to see a 360 version as well as a PS3 version given Kojima's previous stance on never developing a game for the 360. I also think that this is the true reason the consoles will not be seeing an actual MGS instalment at least not the "true MGS5" inside of Kojima.

On an entirely different note, this means I am going to have to break down and buy a PSP now.

Yup, it's very transparent.

The good thing is that the other console is going downhill (hopefully) so that would allow Konami to give Kojima freedom as to which console the next MGS game comes out for

I'll buy/play and cherish this game more than MGS Rising, that's for sure.

What if MGS Rising is the best game of next year? Will you still cherish it more then?

That sucks to hear, just because I know its true, What happened to Indiana being the ceneter of basketball, Basketball might of been born in Massachusetts, but grew up In Indiana. now I can always look forward to my COlTS, we take our sports very seriously in the Hoosier State, I will still love basketball as a sport forever.

The demo was beyond awesome. Although I cant get used to the lack of a second analog. The PSP really needs one for this particular game. Aiming with the buttons is just horrible.

I keep saying this. I am finally getting a PSP for this and Chains Of Olympus.
Quick question can anyone recommend any other games for the PSP ? Or better yet guys I'll ask in the forum lol 🙂

I'm late to the party, but I just bought Crush for $10 on PSN and it's definitely worth it.

Also, if you like Strategy RPGs, Jeanne D'Arc and FFT: The War Of The Lions (though the latter is just a port of the PS1 FFT).

So now we have solid proof that when Kojima was forced to present Rising and then forced to clarify that he would be very much involved in the development of that game that he was well… forced to do and say those things. Let's face it, a more action oriented MGS that is multiplat is obviously something Konami did in order to appeal to the xbox twitchers and suck some money out of them. As long as that money goes toward some great exclusive(s) to PS3 I'm okay with it. Not too interested in Rising though.

Too bad I don't have a PSP so the only MGS I'm looking forward to is Rising, that is if it's any good.

I just recently bought a few used PSPs & noticed the remote play listed in their menus.

But I don't know anything about it, so can anyone tell just what "remote play" is, & how it works???

TheHighlander

You can link to a PS3 via LAN or over the Intenet and play content on the PS3 remotely. Some games even support remote play allowing you to play a PS3 game with your PSP at a remote location. Mostly it's for video or music streaming from the PS3 to the PSP. You have to tell your PS3 to be in 'remote play' mode so it can be turned on remotely.

Thanks for the games guys, plenty there to consider, now just to find the money for them lol 🙂

Ok, highlander, thanks.

I had thought it meant that it was some content on either machine that also needed the 2nd machine to either unlock or further an otherwise hidden section of said game.
Like something I seem to remember reading about a couple games that needed the PSP game to help further the PS3 game.

So in that case, would that also be considered to be a part of "Remote play" too???

this is the continuation of the best legend of video gaming, my heart is with The Boss, The Big Boss and The Snake Saga! A must buy, must play day one game for me.

i am so not thrilled about the Rising, thinking about the story with Rising as the main role turns me off instantly.

The Peace Walker is the spiritual successor of the snake saga and the TRUE MGS5
