Ben-DutkaOur latest poll proved that many consumers aren't all that interested in the PSP Go, be it as an upgrade or a new unit. That lofty $250 price tag has halted a great many of them in their tracks.
Well, several European retailers are already aware of this and have opted to slash the price almost immediately after the portable's release. As noted by Eurogamer , Amazon UK, Play and GAME have all dropped the price from the original £224.99 down to £199, while others – ShopTo included – still charges full price. Initial sales numbers from Sony showed a 120% increase after the launch of the PSP Go, even though the PSP Go only managed to sell as many units as the PSP-3000 model this past weekend. Analyst Michael Pachter has also predicted that we'll see an official price cut for the PSP Go for the holiday season, and at this point, that's not a bad idea. Sony made a big deal out of the 16,000 pieces of available downloadable content for the PSP Go (including 225 full games), but perhaps this will resonate more with a lower price tag. Furthermore, it would certainly help if they could manage to provide us with that UMD-to-digital conversion system they're currently working on. Many current PSP owners have sizable UMD libraries by now, after all.
So what do you think? Should Sony just drop the price of the PSP Go right now? Or should they wait a bit? How will consumers continue to respond to the new unit?

I really believe the price is the only thing holding many back, me included. It's been said 1000 times, but for 50 dollers more you can buy a ps3.
PS, Ben I'm suprise you haven't posted an article about the playstation eyepet being delayed till April next year, I thought that was big news.

Hopefully this catches on sooner rather then later! Its the biggest gripe with this prototype psp thingamajig! Sony putting out all that psp go stuff on the PSN didn't help at all just made me realize how I don't wanna pay full price for a digital download T^T
I really don't see the reason to 'upgrade' myself. I have a PSP-3000, have a few games and honestly, I just can't see myself making a digital library of games, it just seems awkward. I mean if I wanted to I should go ahead and just buy 16gb Memory Sticks for my PSP already, the only possible difference I could think of is the load times, as the PSP Go would read straight from the hard drive, but I mean some PSP games allow for loading backgrounds and other things earlier than normal (in which they recommend playing while charged, haha) and data installs really wouldn't be that big of a deal as I could have more of them than full games on a PSP.
And then the people who say, well at least you don't have to carry 30 UMD's around. Um, why would you want to? Unless you're going to some PSP party, why would you want to possibly switch between 30 games or something. When I play a game I generally play that one game till I finish, maybe play another game if I got angry at the one I'm playing, lol. But I mean, the battery life is the same, the screen is a bit smaller, and I don't know about the speakers but they're probably the same, the lack of umd's and all for a HIGHER price. To be honest in some ways it seems more like a downgrade to me. But then again the whole purpose of it is to be more 'portable' and accessible? How can you get 'more' portable? xD Isn't a portable a portable, guess it's just size related. But I have to admit, if Sony really does put every single UMD game on the PSN, then it truly would make a lot more people want to buy it because they could just download it, but I'm just one of those people who would rather have a physical disk, haha.

Im not stupid and neither are many other people. Obviously Sony is going to make 100% profits on the Go!. That being said they should sell it at break even price to get the system out.
i hered you can hook up your psp go to your tv and play games off that using your dual shock 3.

if so hopefully the markets may be selling some psp games on memory sticks.

I really think a price drop so soon is not right for the go. I mean they dropped the price of the ps3, so how's aboot lettin them make a little extra cash.
Open up development to hobbyists. It is all about the apps. PSP Go needs way more downloadable games/apps than is available now. They need to price them more competitively with other download only platforms. People will be more willing to buy when the cost of games come down for download titles to offset the inability to trade them in or share them.
I agree I'm not a HUGE fan of downloadable stuff i still like the good ol fashion ps one cases and the special/collector/limited edtion cases…
so why would i spend the same amount on the psp go i did on the orginal psp and not be able to play the games i have now…

a lot of people kinda dont get (and sony kinda hasnt made this ultra clear) that you can play anything that you play on the psp go! on a reg series psp. 16gb of internal storage just lets you haul more at a time.
thats why this is a lightweight, semi-stripped down piece of hardware. anything it can do, a cheaper psp-x000 can do. once the price reflects its place on the feature ladder, sales will boost accordingly.
Just cut the price now. Why wait a month?

Well, Sony is more than likely charging such a high amount because of the fact that they included bluetooth into the PSP Go. If you look at it, you can get a PSP-3000 for $169.99, or something close to that amount. The 3000 doesn't come with more than maybe 1, sometimes 2GB of storage on the memory stick often bundled with it. If you bought a PSP-3000, and a 16GB Memory stick, which is usually priced at about $100, you'd be paying more than you would for a PSP Go. While the bonus would be a UMD drive, as well as 0.5" more screen space, it doesn't have the bluetooth pairing capabilities that the Go has. While this is appealing to new PSP customers, its really catering to the casual gamer, not the experienced user. I've had a PSP-1000 and a 2000, and I would gladly get my 2000 back. However, I would buy the PSP Go once a price cut is issued. I have quite a few PSOne classics I'd like to carry with me and many friends with Skype, and the bluetooth is a major selling point in the sense that the Go would be like having a phone that could call anywhere in the world with the proper plan. Sorry for such a long post, I've just been reading the arguments for and against the Go for a while now and thought I should contribute.
You can buy a 16GB pro duo on Ebay for about $65.
