They've moved through the motion sensing aspect of the presentation – nothing new there, folks – and are now onto the PSP, which thankfully has what Sony is calling "steady growth." And the nearly decade-old PS2? That ain't goin' anywhere.
Overall, Sony's handheld has sold nearly 53 million units worldwide and the upcoming PSP Go – which launches on October 1 in the US and November 1 in Japan – should continue the trend of innovation and quality. Obviously, new titles like LittleBigPlanet PSP and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will fuel sales for the PSP and we shouldn't forget that both the PSP Go and current PSP-3000 models will be on sale simultaneously. There have been 138 million PS2s sold worldwide in less than ten years, and while there are signs of slowing (more people finally leaping into the new generation), there's no doubt that Sony will continue to support the aging platform until its last dying breath. Anyway, if you add up the two aforementioned numbers, there have been 191 million PlayStation platforms sold since the turn of the century, and we're not even counting the original PlayStation or the PS3. That's pretty insane. At this point, it's difficult to even conceive of an avid gamer who doesn't have some sort of PlayStation device in the home, and that's exactly what Sony aimed for way back when.
Okay, the juiciest stuff is still yet to come, as they continue to talk about the PSN (600 million pieces of content downloaded, 29 million PSN accounts). Yeah, it's a little boring, but we still have faith…
Impressive.

The numbers for the slim in September will be fu**ing ridiculous 😀
LOVE the Slim, so quiet and powerful!

The keynote is over. It appears an actual conference will begin in a few hours…that must be where the big news will come.
Im so pissed at the price of the "psp go" thankfully we all can assume the memory size installed on the device will increase and the price will drop in time…right? Anyone think I should pick one up? I've got no psp and like the idea of downloading games onto a handheld ^_^ but the price… suggestions?
It'll drop to $199 within about 6 months of launch.
i wonder what was in the secret box.
