Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Announced For PSP

When it came to the DS, PSP owners everywhere were glancing around going, "hey, what about us?" Well, don't worry; Rockstar didn't forget about you.

According to Videogamer , Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is headed to Sony's handheld unit. It'll release for the PSP and PSP Go some time this fall, and it will be available in both UMD and digital format (as many upcoming titles will be). Following the portable GTA trend set by the likes of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories , Chinatown Wars will boast "upscaled widescreen graphics, enhanced lighting and animation, plus all-new story missions." Said Rockstar founder Sam Houser:

"We're proud to extend this truly unique handheld Grand Theft Auto experience to PSP and offer a downloadable version of Chinatown Wars for PSPGo. Rockstar Leeds has shown incredible talent in creating games that raise the bar in terms of depth and innovation on portables, and with Chinatown Wars we have a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series."

If you're not yet familiar with the story, you will step into the shoes of Huang Lee, a new member of the notorious Triads who travels to Liberty City in the hunt to discover his father's killer. It'll be just another game PSP owners will want to buy towards the end of this year, which means an upgrade to the PSP Go doesn't seem quite so silly. With all that software being made for both models, might you want to go lean and mean with the new UMD-less PSP?

I'm not sure it seems cool but then again, I don't have enough money to buy this and all the great ps3 games coming out. I will have to see the review

Could be interesting; but technically will it look similar to its big brother; I mean will it be in rudimentary 3D or a "flat" world? If MGS Peace Walker is anything to go by it should be in full 3D I would imagine.

Seem Rockstar are leaning more and more toward Sony these days. Wonder what is happening!

Q!

Damn…my PSP-1000 is broken…but the announcement of this, Peace Walker, and the new Monster Hunter has made the PSP-Go a day one purchase for me.

PSPGo is an ugly piece of machinery and i never liked it from the beginning but that said, with all the new games announced for release later this year or early next it might have to be a PSPGo for me since my original is broken…

Point goes to Cpt_Geez. Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories both sold better than Chinatown Wars despite CTW's great reviews. So it was definitely a smart idea to bring it to the PSP. My question is will they keep it a top down view like DS version or will the LCS it?

.56 mil total sales is hardly "extremely well". While the game has been praised by critics, it has been considered by almost everyone in the industry to be a "flop" as far as sales are concerned.

I wondered if this might happen, the previous titles went platinum so surely a psp version would seem the way to go.

It will continue to be "meh", trust me.

gtaIV is undoubtly the weakest of them all, Jawknee. In my opinion the most overrated game this decade, it'd hardly deserve a 80% on gamerankings if there was any fairness in this world. The rest of them however, are true gems each and every one – and that includes the PSP GTA's.

I never really liked GTA games much. Mostly because I never really enjoyed "open world" games especially GTA due to some of my moral objections to some of the content in the game. But the 10/10 IGN gave it I decided to get it. It's not bad. Just not the expected 10.

And the PSP's library keeps getting deeper. PSP has the best lineup of AAA games on the way.

Soul Calibur
GT
and now this.

I am kind of disappointed b/c this means I probably won't see a San Andreas stories any time soon.I will keep an eye on this even thought the camera view of Chinatown hurts my eyes.

I don't think there will ever be a San Andreas Stories. As for this… I am still skeptical. That being because the game was made taking full advantage of the touch screen for many things. We all know it just isn't possible to emulate touch-screen mini-games on a screen lacking that ability. If this is true, though, I will be picking it up regardless.

Definitely a buy for me. I got GTA: VCS and GTA:LS so it's only natural for me to buy this game on PSP as well.

It's a little offtopic but I read somewhere that GTA5 is Sony exclusive however, no source was provided for the said information. It doesn't make any sense though. Why would they make GTA4 multiplat and then suddenly make GTA5 a Sony exclusive? Can anyone please confirm about the GTA5 platform?

I have heard a lot of good stuff about this game, so I will definitely give this one a try. I have not been disappointed by any gta game yet.

I've got it for my DSi. The scratch-off mini game is hilarious.
