Ubisoft Announces Tenchu: Shadow Assassins For PSP

Although the Metal Gear Solid series always ruled the stealth kingdom, there have been lesser known competitors that fared quite well in the past. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell franchise is probably the leading competitor, but there have also been the likes of Syphon Filter and Tenchu .

Well, they're supposedly working on Syphon Filter 5 , and as you can see by this Ubisoft Twitter update , a new Tenchu is headed to Sony's PSP. It's Tenchu: Stealth Assassins – previously released on the Wii – and it's slated to launch in the U.S. some time this month, and in Europe at some point in April. This should come as good news to handheld aficionados, who haven't had a Tenchu installment since Time of the Assassins in 2006. The latter wasn't a stellar title by any stretch of the imagination, and unfortunately, the series has gone downhill since the original wowed critics and gamers alike. It has been over 10 years since then, though, and although Wrath of Heaven on the PS2 was decent, Tenchu just hasn't managed to regain its initial glory. But we have high hopes for Shadow Assassins , which may actually benefit from this transition from the Wii to the PSP. The game really wasn't bad at all on the Wii, so why can't we have expectations for the portable version? We love that grappling hook!  And remember the rice balls?

We're starting to see plenty of potential for the 2009 PSP software lineup, and that's good news. The rumors for the PSP 2 have yet to be confirmed, but even if it doesn't arrive this year, there's a chance we'll see another redesigned handheld (like the PSP-4000) for the holiday season. Either way, we'll need the top-notch software, and we think it's coming…
