PSP-3000, Possible Features Rumored

We recently learned that the PSP would stick around for another seven years in a continued lifecycle , which means the snazzy handheld should go through several more incarnations before all is said and done. Hence, the PSP-3000 is on everyone's lips; the rumor is spreading like wildfire throughout the Internet.

We have no doubt another PSP is on the way, but there is no official information as of yet, so all of the following is nothing more than speculation. However, we're willing to bet that at least one – if not more – of the discussed features will be featured in the new PSP, and they're all intriguing. For example, the new handheld design could boast dual analog sticks, which is a very popular rumor and one that is connected to PS2 and PS1 software. If you see analog sticks, publishers may have a field day delivering those old games to the PSP, right? We've also heard plenty involving Bluetooth technology, touch screen, and integrated GPS. The touch screen idea actually isn't new; this rumor appeared towards the end of last year.

We may also see more RAM, rumble coming with the dual analog sticks, an HDMI port and our personal favorite, PS2 emulation. Can you imagine if that became a feature for the PSP? It seems a little illogical – and in some respects, almost impossible – but it's still fun to hope. We'll let you know whenever Sony issues anything official regarding a new PSP model, that's for sure.

Probably won't see the 3000 for another 15-18 months or so.

15-18 months?!? I don't even know if I wanna buy a PSP2000 now…I hate when they release a new model and the old model is worth like 15% of how much you paid…just like the gameboys used to do

PS2 emulation doesn't seem too hard when it comes to games like FFX.

I agree. Tekken 5 DR was basically an emulation they put on the PS3. All they would have to do is compress the crap out of the games! lol

Alright guys lets get a grip here. Sony is not going to do anything to the PSP that will alienate the installed base. Which means virtually any major changes aren't going to happen. Sony is not going to make any changes that could render new games un-playable on old psp models. I'd say that even something as small as the second analog stick isn't going to happen. What you could see is faster or more durable hardware, a lighter slimmer console, and some internal flash memory.

@reccaman: you misunderstand why ps2 emulation isn't possible. the ps2 is more powerful than the psp. You can't emulate something that the hardware can't keep up with.

no we wont see another psp till about 2010 i beleive, gps is on its way, and with skype here now… why would they even think about making a 3000… just rumors

i would love analog sticks though and an extra set of r1 and r2 buttons, maybe a touch screen. then sony will be unstopbable.

With those hardware changes I wouldn't want them to be for a PSP 3000 but for the PSP 2 with improved gfx.
I'm still pissed that I have to buy a new PSP 2000 for some of the features that won't be on PSP 1000. I want the tv antenna and the video out for the PSP that I have, Sony always said they would keep involving the PSP, I always thought that meant with the PSP that I got on launch and not with new models. Imagine they did this with PS3 and we had to buy a new PS3 for the tv recorder, then in the future more PS3 with hardware changes come out that allow it to have better features the current one don't. We woouldn't be happy.

Errmm, no it isn't more powerful. Where are you getting your info from? Let's see the specs:

PSP Slim:
333MHz Processor
64MB of RAM
4MB of Embedded DRAM

PS2 Slim
300MHz processor
32MB of RDRAM (Direct Rambus)
4MB of Embedded DRAM

so, can you explain how the PS2 is more powerful when it has a slower processor and less memory?

This could potentially be an ok buy for those that bought the psp when it first came out but for those that just bought the last version, this isnt so great. Of course if they do release a new version it wont be out for a while.

PS2 Emu wont happen. I dont know if they would waste their time downscalling so many games or bother putting them on umd's. Downloads are out of the question unless they assume everybody has a huge mem stick. Plus not many people are just going sit and dl 1.5 gigs of info for every game they buy. Homebrew MAYBE.

And rumble?…. uh, battery eater.

Dang it! I just bought my PSP yesterday and now you are telling me it will be out-of-date in a year or so?
Oi!! I just hope that this will dive down prices across the board… maybe I'll be a new one in a year or so, maybe not… depends on what it has and what it can do and what it costs.
