If you're unfamiliar with SOCOM 4 – perhaps you're not in the beta – you may hold some false assumptions.
For instance, one might presume this game is your standard third-person and squad-based shooter and while there is strategy involved, the gameplay doesn't alter drastically from person to person. Well, did you know there's a significant difference between being a passive and active leader? Check out the PlayStation Blog , where you'll see two very different approaches to the single-player campaign chapter, Benefaction. In this level, we find ourselves in a dense jungle environment that culminates in an epic beach ambush as enemy equipment is unloaded onto the shore. While Sid kept a low profile but took care of most of the work himself, Jeff decided to issue commands and hang back…thereby allowing him to finish the level without firing a single shot.
Freedom and choice are crucial in this growing form of entertainment; the more choice we have, the more fun we tend to have.

both! Looks like this game will warrant multiple playthroughs. Very excited.
i simply just dont have the time or money for this game but when i played the beta it seemed like a quality game.
off topic but the geohotz case is over. details on psblog
I saw that. Ben, did you not post any articles about the "hackers attacks" because you don't want to stroke their ego? If so, well done, I applaud you for not.
That's exactly why. I put up a Tweet a little while back saying we weren't about to give attention to those who only seem to desire attention.
That sounds pretty sweet, I like games that allow for different play styles because I tend to play them multiple times.
I'm interested in socom 4, but not really for the mp and so I'm waiting on the actual reviews to see how well the sp turns out. Guessing most of the game is going to be mp and so most likely I'll be buying it on the cheap.
I'll be trying both rolls, and by the sounds of it, experimenting with the game play variations.
Im gonna run and gun SON!! I dont care if I get PWNED!
thats exactly whats gonna happen. i seen people run and gun in game and get gunned down right away. i had a good view through my sights while i blasted their heads open.
A good rusher uses his brain and thinks tactically of what he's going to do in any given situation. Don't rush blindly may the war gods be with you~
Awesome just bought mine one Ebay.
theres 2 things i dont like about the beta. game kinda promotes camping and theres no party system unless youre in the same clan. even with these complaints i'm still going to get it day 1.
I really hope they do impliment a party system of some kinds. Its awful when you're playing with people and they randomly get assigned to the other team. WTF is the point? That's an easy fix though, and they've recently fixed a few of my other complaints (the way-too-close camera, and the accuracy of certain weapons) with a patch, so hopefully this is something that'll be fixed post-release.
i've enjoyed the beta a lot. it looks and plays great. people who think they will be able to run and gun are going to get cutt down real quick.
well, at least that's what happens to me when i try it.

That sounds awesome. Exactly what I was looking for in terms of this game, and I hope that they don't force you to take one route over the other. Looks like this will be my first post-Easter purchase… Unless Motorstorm: Apocalypse drops in price a bit.
Peace.
Never played a Socom, but this game looks and sound real good. Will definitely give this a go. I need to try to beta but don't feel like downloading all that information. I'll just wait for the review then go from there.
I like these type of games
SO DO I!!!!
Tactical shooters are always the best, deeper gameplay mechanics, more replay value instead of just mindless shooting that gets repetitive. More tactical shooter please, we need SWAT 5 and a new Rainbow Six.
The way you can shoot or not shoot is cool. It definitely adds to the tactical.
Yeah I want this, plus I also want that other tactical shooter game too, "Operation Flashpoint: Red River".
I like the game, but Supression seems to close to Call of Duty for some reason..Bomb Squad is awesome though.
I don't know how that would remind you of COD, in COD you respawn back, if you die in Socom you don't until the round ends.
In classic supression you don't respawn but with the other settings you do.
The campaign and co-op is going to be sweet but the multiplayer is going to be mediorce
The best part of socom is it's single player and multiplayer.
Hooh, hold your horses: What co-op? Storyline coop?
I believe there are 6 "co-op missions" that arent quite the same as story missions (I could be wrong…maybe they're taken right form the story?) that you could play with up to 5 people online.
now thats what i was hoping for!
i was really worried about them dropping the navy seals badge, and the beta was another nail in the coffin.
maybe this will be a true SOCOM game after all?
i hope so!
if i want a mindless squad based shooter ill go buy battlefield or COD.
if i want a tactical squad based shooter ill buy SOCOM.
so dont try to meld the 2!
maybe for once the developers are not trying to turn the game into something it should not be!
All of you need to head over to the Socom forums to see what long time players of this series opinions are. I think that you will be surprised at all of the hate being posted there.
