Dungeon Siege Returns On May 31

Some may call 2011 the year of the RPG…or rather, the year of the Western RPG as JRPGs are few and far between on consoles.

We've already seen Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 and the improved Two Worlds II (review coming soon), and Dragon Age II is on tap for March. Now, another promising role-playing title has received a release date: Square-Enix has announced that Dungeon Siege III will be available in North America for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on May 31. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, this all-new entry in the long-running action/RPG franchise holds a lot of promise. Players will choose between one of four heroes, and will battle for their lives in the land of Ehb; your decision will have consequences (which will alter the storyline), and there is a co-op mode, too. Claiming to have "robust AI," the combat should be fast and fun, with that role-playing depth so many crave.

They've also unveiled the pre-order incentives: if you drop your deposit at GameStop, you will receive the Burning Band of Scorch; a ring that increases raw damage and sets any foe ablaze with any weapon, and the Talisman of the Grand Mage. It's a necklace that reduces any damage taken and gives the player the chance to lash out and injure enemies that are too close. Amazon is offering the Bite of the Arakun (can poison enemies or lower defense), Best Buy will give you the Sacred Heart of the Legion (increases health and pushes enemies back when the wearer is struck), and pre-ordering at Wal-Mart will net you a mini-comic and strategy guide.

We have all the highest hopes in the world for Dungeon Siege III . Can Obsidian pull it off…?
