When Valve Software boss Gabe Newell took the Sony stage at last year's E3, he told everyone the PlayStation 3 would be getting the "best version" of Portal 2 .
Well, that's more true now than ever. According to The Escapist , the developer is tossing in a bunch of new features, and PS3 owners will even get an extra copy of the game. Thanks to Valve's Steamworks platform, we'll be able to play co-op with both PS3 and PC players and by linking their PSN and Steam accounts, PS3 owners can actually unlock the PC or Mac version of the game for free. Valve has said in the past they will continue to support Portal 2 in a variety of ways, and that certainly includes updates and DLC. It's also nice to know that PS3 and PC owners can play nice together; it makes the experience that much wider, and allows for many more participants to be involved. Remember, Portal is definitely more of a PC thing, so the addition of that crowd is a big deal from a multiplayer standpoint. We'll be interested to see how Valve does with the PS3…the system they never really liked until only recently.
Portal 2 is slated to arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac in mid-April.

This is great news! However, Please give us Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 in one package! That is the game I want to own on the PS3! That would be so fantastic I cannot contain myself. It would be a day one purchase for me.
If you play L4D2, the first one is redundant.
Does that mean PS3 players can do multiplayer with PC players?
I believe that's exactly what it means
Not only that, they can voice chat!
@Alienange:
Oh, wow! That's the best feature to ever exist! :p
Logged in to steam to see if they have the account linking up yet. Could not find it.
It's unlikely for the feature to be released before the game.
It's also a possibility that the feature can only be accessed from within the PlayStation 3 copy of the game.
This will be awesome cause I'm sure most of my friends will be getting this for PC, so I can play with them by using my computer and my PS3.
Now all they need is keyboard and mouse compatibility like in UT III. I don't mind using the Dualshock 3 for FPSs, but a keyboard and mouse is better, if you ask me.

I agree. Not a huge fan of the sticks for FPS. Mouse and Keyboard always felt more natural.
Same here, Mouse and Keyboard always felt better for fps.
I wonder if Playstation Move is going to have any effect on this situation? Perhaps it's yet another reason to look forward to Killzone 3.
I don't like Move with MAG. Doesn't feel right. THe duel shock is better for MAG but maybe they will get it right with Killzone 3. The motion controls work great on the Wii with Metroid Prime.
Awesome, now I can check which feels better, cuz I get the pc version for free 😀
anyways, thnx Valve
Since I just ordered my new gaming PC a week ago, this is amazing news! Can't wait to play it on both the PS3 and PC! 😀
This is great news. I never thought something like this would happen. At least not this soon.
its like one day the guys at valve woke up and suddenly thought "what the hell is wrong with me?" A true epiphany, that would lead to the ps3 becoming the new favorites over at valve. Either that or they saw kevin butler on tv, laughed and then said to each other "that ps3 isn't half bad"
If Steam goes full fledged on the PS3, Microsoft won't sit by on the sidelines.
So what exactly do you suppose they would do?
Well, they will probably open up their system to developers a little bit and let them offer those services on the box. That was the whole issue behind bringing Steam to the box in the first place, the fact that they have a closed system.
What do you mean by a closed system?
there is a file size limit, and any multiplayer has to be run through xbox live. Unlike on the ps3 where devs have the option to run games off their own online systems, like MGS4
That'll be great, it'll mean the online users of portal2 is twice the size (kinda/ish…) and so we have more people to play with 🙂
Perfect!
considering i was debating whether i should get this for PC or PS3. guess this news finalizes it.
I also read that your saved files on the ps3 get saved onto the steam cloud system, so if anything happens to your PS3, you'll always have your save files. I wish more games would do this seeing as my old PS3 died on me and i lost all my save files. It would be great to have save files only accessible to your psn, so you never have to worry about having your PS3 Fail on you.
I read that too. And something about being able to play the same profile on the go using your laptop.
it would be nice if that was an offered service of a psn+ subscription, though with the constant stream of free games it already is pretty nice
I wasn't interested in Portal 2 until today. This is some masterful piece of software. Obviously similar to what DCUO is doing and to great effect. As long as the mp is actually good.
wow, this is awesome. I been interested in this game, my friends are. But it might come down to the amount of games I already have at that point and will be getting soon after.
another reason that you should have a PS3.
PS3 get you some!
"You go, Gabe"
WTF?
FREE!?
gabe, i love you!!!!!!!!!!!
what a better way to beat piracy!
buy our game, and instead of getting one version you get 2!
now only if every developer would do that!
Awesome, seems like a great feature, being the first game where both pc players and ps3 players can play together. I think the only game in the past that was capable to do this was lost planet fro the xbox 360 and pc versions. Correct me if i'm wrong.
So, wait.. Portal 2 will have multiplayer?
(Sorry for sounding like an idiot. I haven't been following Portal 2 news)
