Rumor: Full Game Trial For MAG Looming On The Horizon

Demos are cool. Being able to sample the entire game for free for a limited time might be even better, depending on the title.

MAG is basically a MMO shooter, which means it needs time to grow and expand; developer Zipper Interactive has done a lot throughout 2010, and anyone who frequently plays will run down a laundry list of improvements, fixes, and general enhancements. So maybe you've been waiting for the bigger and better MAG but aren't quite sure about a purchase…and if so, this news is for you. As noted by more than a few gamers and sources around the Internet, the Flickr page for the PlayStation Blog has a telling image. As you can see, it's the logo for MAG and beneath it, we see "Full Game Trial." This could be huge, because many opted to wait after the game launched in early 2010; if they're allowed to become aware of the many, many improvements for free , that could result in a lot more dedicated players. Would you be willing to give it a try? It's the deepest online FPS out there.

As of now, MAG has sold over 1 million units, although since the last update, it could've moved closer to the 1.5 million mark.

As anyone on my friend list can attest, I love MAG. In my opinion, it is the best FPS out there, and MAG has been supported by a phenomenal developer in Zipper.

To those who have yet to try it, there really is a deep MMO experience to be had.

I feel sorta bad that I can't support this game, you know they worked hard on it, and it's damn cheap. But I don't hardly play FPS online. Still I hope this marketing tactic works… if they can get anybody to download a full dang game like this from the network.

Ok, I have been looking at mag every since the beta. Now that its 14.99 BRAND NEW at gamestop, im going to pick it up. Only bad thing is I got 2 wait till I go back 2 college to play it becuz where i stay at i only have dial-up….yeah yeah go ahead and thumb down me cuz i have dial-up, its understandable lol. *side-note* i have came to the conclusion since i have been spoiled by online, that many of the games i have is boring without online play….sigh

I hear you man. I'm only now getting out of the Dial up cage-of-slow. Really makes you appreciate high speed internet. When ever I was away from home with my PS3 I would only play online and save all my RPGs and story modes for the time spent home.
It forces good time management I guess

I Got MAG about a month and a half ago give or take, and It is an unbelievably fun game. It's better then call of duty IMO, but most people don't like it (AKA call of duty players only) but its Heck of a lot of fun, I also have move and it only adds to the depth, I encourage people to pick this up.

how do you find playing it with Move? I dont like the fact they gone to the trouble of implementing Move controls but dont even give you any guidance on what each calibration setting actually does, instead leaving you to figure it out for yourself. Seems like an oversight IMO

full game trials, at least those i have tried feels more of a hassle than good. you download about 6 gb of data to try it for an hour. some games you cant even make any good progress for during that time because theyre counting cutscene moments too. they should just keep the downloads small instead of the full game right away. i dont know how they'll handle mag though because the first thing you do in game is that long download but if they dont count that, which is likely, its going to be good for mag.

i dont know how much they can get though because all that will be open for them is suppression and sabotage. domination and acquisition highlights how big the game is and i dont think they'll reach that in an hour.

on a side note, i just downloaded the dc online universe beta and it took me over 12 hours to download 15gb. i dont have the fastest connection but its good enough playing online. i had to leave the ps3 to download it while i slept. i guess they dont get that not everyone has a really fast internet connection. i have no interest in playing it now but since i already downloaded it, i'm obligated to play it. not that big of a fan of the game but since i took the time to download it, i just cant delete it before i play it.

With all the updates that Zipper Interactive made with MAG, perhaps it deserves a second review. Just a thought.

Anyway, I am probably going to get the trial and see how it goes. I know the game is good (got lots of friends that play it), but my motion sickness usually tells me to keep my distance from FPS games. And due to lack of experience playing such games, I know I'd suck. LOL

Free game trials on PSN rock. 60 minutes to try before you buy? Perfection. It sold me on Infamous.

Demos are important, but a 1 hour trial really lets you know what you can expect and therefore whether it's worth it or not.

Anyone who hasn't yet tried out MAG, then you should really give this trial ago. I gotta give it to Zipper man, they have been superb at supporting this game right out from the start. MAG is a really fun game once you get a hang of it. When you have a good squad and everything clicks, the feeling is just unbelievably satisfying. The response to this game just doesn't justify how fun this game can really be when everything comes together.
Just be patient with this game, it may be frustrating at first, but its just fun. Also the Move add on really helps make it more immersive. At first, it took me a long time to get used to the sensitivity of the Move. I nearly wanted to give up and go back to DS3, but I decided to give the Move few more tries and finally I got the hang of it, and it just adds that extra fun factor.

ed_winchester

Glad you said that coz I have just come off the game and was ready to go back to DS3 but I may now just be a bit more patient with Move

SaintX

You gotta spend more time with the Move control settings. I set my sensitivity to the lowest, but it was still a little too sensitive for me. In the end, I just forced myself to play with it and try to get use to it. Eventually I did get used to it, and now DS3 just seems so boring to me. Hehe 🙂

ed_winchester
ed_winchester

Cool. Yeh I find it can be too sensitive, like if I come up against someone close range and I aim down the sights I panic and my aim is all over the place and I WILL be the one to go down. That said I do feel like I'm very slowly getting the hang of it

It's not that I'm not willing to try this out, but it's a MMO shooter which I'm not interested.

But I'm interested in SOCOM 4 that's for sure.

MAG is a really damn good FPS. Especially with all the updates, patches, etc. that have been done to this great game since its release.

If only Sony/Playstation would take the initiative to broaden their focus and stop promoting Playstation stuff to Playstation owners.

What they need to do is bring an awareness to what they have to offer in front of a board of people who all have a similar interest. With that interest being what Playstation has to offer, not Playstation itself.

Maybe Im missing the point but I hate the fact that you have to pick a faction and stick with it. It take ages to get in a game and correct me if Im wrong but isnt that because there arent enough people from each faction to start a game?
Could you imagine if say Killzone for example, you had a one-time choice, Higs or ISA and that was it.. You could be waiting ages for a game coz there may be loads of one but not enough of the other

if its a low traffic time like tuesday afternoon it can be a real pain sometimes, but if youre playing in the evening the problem is largely mitigated and if youre playing on the weekends its non-existent, at least in my experience.

Well you gotta go to Playstation Network, Under MAG's DLC and purchase them. Its about $0.99 per slot if I am not mistaken

i might pay the 20 clams at gamestop just to try it again with move. itd be interesting to see if its an advantage or an impediment.

i had it before and it was pretty deep, but i think i got sidetracked on another game and never came back to it…

MAG really is an awesome game. if more people would pick it up and try it they may just like it. it really depends on teamwork and following orders. provided the people in charge know how to play. i have a user review of the status of mag as of the 2.0 update. if anyone wants to play i am on all 3 factions.

ed_winchester
ed_winchester

How do you join all 3 factions? I clicked on the option to purchase another slot but when it took me to the PS store, all that was there was the map packs etc. Also there was some free DLC for weapons so I downloaded it but when I went into the game i had no new guns…

frylock25
frylock25

well the guns you have to buy at the in game store to use them. to use the factions there is a character select screen, you have to buy the character b and c slots to use all 3 factions. the slots are subscriptions though and you will have to pay for them every month. there should be 2 add on spots under your first character you build.

i have noticed that sony mistakenly takes things down sometimes. if its missing you might need to call sony and ask them. i have seen it before the dlc to marvel ultimate alliance 2 disappered off the store for months and reappeared one day.

Cheers Frylock. Definitely not there in the store tho. I'll keep an eye out for it. So if you buy a different character slot, do you have to rank that one up from the start or do your stats carry over?

frylock25
frylock25

no its a whole new profile. you have to start all over and nothing transfers over. you are still using your psn name so a trophy scored in one counts for your psn name. but to platinum the game you have to get all medals in one profile. now if you make it to level 70 you can veteran and go to a different faction keeping your stats and progress. i have seen people in that game that are almost 20 time veterans.

im curious, what faction are you on? also are you in the US? i would contact your local sony and ask them about the character slots if your not.

my main profile is a 1 time vet second time on sver level 64 or 65 i think. my second profile is valor and third is raven. both are around 20ish. i want the trophies for level 60 on valor and raven then im deleting them. sver is to much fun. im frylock25 online feel free to find me. my clan tries to play as much as we can and its more fun with a team.

The move with MAG is really fun, its almost like using a mouse and keyboard, they do give you practice in the practice mode with move, but other than that it doesen't tell you much. But it's really easy, and if your good, very good! I say if you have move or getting it soon I'd pick up MAG if not I say wait for KIllzone 3 or socom 4

next month marks the one year mark for mag being out. i have a feeling they might have something planned like a xp boost or more maybe. honestly they need to do something, interdiction is almost dead, and late at night people just drop off with no one to replace them.
