Characters from action games have often popped up in fighting titles this generation, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot is no exception.
According to the latest issue of OPM, as cited by Game Informer , one of the most recognizable names – and faces – in all of PlayStation gaming will be included in the fighter roster. It's Kratos from the stellar God of War series, and we're willing to bet he'll be quite the effective combatant. He won't be playable in the main story mode but he will be available in Versus mode, and he'll definitely have "his own move set, complete with fatalities." GoW creator, David Jaffe, has already commented on the inclusion on his Twitter page :
"LOVE that Kratos is in the new MK. So bummed he's not in the story portion. Heard about it from Ed at E3 this year and had to keep super mum on it but man, ****ing LOVE it. He totally fits in that world. I **** you not- on some level I feel like all the characters I work on are alive and that I have a relationship with them and I can tell you, if I know Kratos- and I do!- he's ****ing LOVING his time in the MK Universe. I bet he makes a **** ton of friends there. He should pull Zeus in and ****ing leave his ass there!"
Yes, it's true that Kratos most certainly fits the atmosphere. Furthermore, it seems even more fighters for Mortal Kombat have been confirmed, but these probably aren't surprising: Goro, Quan Chi, Stryker, Noob Saibot, Sindel, Kabal, Smoke, Shang Tsung and Ermac. Ah, the memories…Goro's annoying reach, Noob Saibot's even more annoying teleportation, Smoke's…smoke, etc. Yes, we all played MK at one point in time; will the reboot rekindle our love affair with the series?

Kratos in MK is meant to be. They could've found some way to include him in the story though. That would've taken it through the roof. This next MK is going to give the other fighters a run for their money..
I agree.
Maybe they are testing the waters for a GOD of WAR fighter. Kratos gets his own story. All the Gods. All the Powers all the legends and Mythical creatures. I'd play that!

Kratos in MK = F*** YES!!!!
Prolly since Kratos will only be on ps3 version? I mean like if they make him part of the story… What they gona put Banjo Kazooie as his xbox counterpart? lol ( There probably is a better equivalent than Banjo but man would I love to see that bear do fatalities XD )

Yeah this one just by looking at the gameplay feels right . Like how mortal kombat should feel.
Well thats unfair, Kratos could kick the crap out of any MK combatant =p
Kratos is becoming the star guest appearance in fighters these days.
I wonder who the guest guy will be for 360 users?
Master Chef?
No, I know. Alan Wake. He'd have his trusty flash light flash special move. FLASH! Stun… UPPERCUT! "haha excellent"

Master Chef. LOL!
I heard a rumour that the 360 guest-star will be that big dude with no neck from the Gears of War games. I also heard a rumour that the 360 will get nothing and that an exclusive character will be exclusive to the PS3.
If it's Master Shake… I mean Chef, he will be able to jump right out of the screen.
tridon, they ran out of DVD space for 360 users so all they'll get is a palette swapped green colored Cyrex and pass it off as a Spartan =p
The thick neck Gears guy? Marcus Fenix. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the game with his chainsaw? How awesome is that!
I just don't know if his move sets will be compelling enough to even be fun to play. They (Microsoft) have to have something better, right?
@tridon,
That could be said about all the characters from Gears 😉
The 360's character will be a kinectimal
@World… ATHF reference?
Numba 1 in da Hood G.
Cliffy B. says he wants to see a "Gears of War" character in Mortal Kombat too…….

Carmine? I think he would work better than any of the other main characters in the story. It would be perfect, but only if I could play him on my PS3.
In the words of Scott Pilgrim, I expect nothing but an epic epic of epicness.
After Kratos slaughtered the Soul Calibur crowd, he'll now unleash the Blades of Chaos (or should I spell that Khaos) upon the Mortal Kombatants. This has guaranteed my Day 1 buy for the new MK.
Mortal Kombat is one of those franchises need to be put out to pasture and just not exist anymore. The franchise is crappy..always have and always will be, but in the Boon should just stop trying to compete with Street Fighter, Tekken , and VF.
Massive crowds of Mortal Kombatants disagree with you, the series had it's troubles, but rebooting to what made it great in the first place will make it "teh tits" again.
Mortal Kombat is my favourite fighting series. Yes, the combat system pales in comparison to other fighters these days but that's what this reboot's for. I actually thoroughly enjoyed MK Vs. DC and I think I'll miss some of the 3D aspects of the fighting. I think that MK has the best mythology, hands down, out of all the fighters. I think Boon should maybe hand over the scripting reigns to someone else, though.
Considering I place your age at about 20, you were never anywhere near the arcades where it was a worldwide phenomenon.
But you're right about everything, so maybe it didn't happen.
… A2K78, have you seen VF5's sales on either 360 or PS3?
"The franchise is crappy..always have and always will be"
Wow… I have to agree with Ben. You must still have been in diapers when I was waiting in line to play Mortal Kombat II (1 was good, but 2 was so much better!)
On the topic of old arcade fighters, anyone remember Killer Instinct? ULTRA COMBO!… C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
What? deception is still one of my alltime favorite fighting games
wow, this guy gets it wrong every time.
AK, I think you're just trolling now. Your comments just aren't funny anymore.
Flamebait… it has to be.
Making me feel old kid. MK will always be my all time favourite fighting franchise. If you were a male between the ages of 8 – 18 anywhere in the 90's, you knew and loved Mortal Kombat.
Can't fix stupid.
@ Nynja
yah I remember Killer Instinct, it was insanely awesome, had the game for the SNES. Those were totally great memories.

Fulgore baby, it was the most epic of moments when you pulled off those unstoppable combos. Too bad they were impossible to do on the N64 controller, and the SNES version was fun but way downgraded.
I could never do all those moves in a row at my age. Maybe that's why the series died.
Fulgore was a beast, although I was never that great with him. I always got my arse handed to me in the arcades. Put an SNES controller in my hand…game over punks! I'd spank your arses with Cinder!
ULTRAAA COMBO!
Ahh, fun times.
If you had EVER been in a real arcade when Mortal Kombat II came out, you could never make such a comically moronic statement. MK was THE fighting series for years — better than Street Fighter even.
There's the one fighter, I remember playing a bit, who's concept I really liked. It was the one where you can morph/transform into an animal hybrid. I think it was called Bloody Roar? I may be interested if they did a reboot of that with a massive roster (maybe having all of the characters from the other games while incorporating a few more). I know it may never happen but…. it's not impossible.
Crawls into a statue; voiceover: "Reptile" *Arms up*
Hell yeah, that's gonna be sweet, he's a force to reckon with in Soul Caliber Broken Destiny.
Yeah. Once he pulls those air combos on you in Broken Destiny, you're pretty much dead 😛
@World: lol I have the VHS cassette for the first MK movie, I remember that scene. It was Liu Kang vs Reptile.
Reptile was my secondary character, my main was Scorpion, but Reptile had so much mystery back then I loved that scene.
Haha, gotta love Jaffe. I already had the next MK on my radar. Now I suppose it will be on my "Must Get" list.
Holy SH*T! I cant wait for this! Ahhh, how can you get better than a baddass going to different places ripping sh*t apart? Put him in a closed area we he can rip apart OTHER badasses!!! Here's to Kratos ripping heads off in 3D! CHEERS!
I remember the first part of Kratos battle against Zeus in GoW3, the camera position was the same as the MK games. Wonder how his fatalities will be…
remember how he killed posidon, I can only assume that would be worthy of a fatality
A cool fatality would be if he rip the ears, tongue and eyes out of his foe and send him/her to the realms of Hades to wander blind, deaf and dumb for all eternity…
Or this is what Iâd like to happen to the person responsible for my copy of KZ2 and GT5 never reaching my homeâ¦
Rip our their legs and wear their boots 😛
I think one of the most brutal of Kratos' kills was in GoWII, on the steeds of time I think, where he bashes the guys head in with the door. I'd like to see something like that.
I think it's cool that we get these cross-overs.
I'm wondering how Metal Gear's "Raiden" character will play once he's unlocked in AC:Brotherhood…..some serious slice & dice
I wondered of this as well. I imagine a true Metal Gear crossover where the revelation is the BOSS is a descendant of the Assassins Guild.
BTW….
While this news is pretty awesome for fans of both MGS & AC, it shouldn't come as a great surprise.
Altaïr was already an unlockable costume in Metal Gear Solid 4, and Hideo Kojima has repeatedly expressed his fondness for the Assassin's Creed franchise.

finally i get to put my two favorite anti-hero's against each other in a battle to the death. Kratos and Skorpion
Bought!
This MK will retain all its 2D greatness without weapons.
SF and MK kicking ass again, amazing!
