GTPlanet has been delving into the Gran Turismo 5 delay issue in an attempt to uncover a root cause. As it turns out, and as a moderator at the Blu-Ray.com forums stated, this is all due to the recent hacking/pirating snafu, which resulted in SDK moderation and restriction for the first time. This in turn caused problems with GT5:
"Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.
The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.
This follows hot on the heels of the news that Polyphony Digital missed their production window by a mere three days . Firmware update 3.50 for the PlayStation 3 is a good deal more secure than 3.41 and simply put, distributing a GT5 for the new version insures it can't be pirated. Well, for the time being, at any rate. So for all you who desperately attempt to defend software piracy with double-speak by saying it doesn't really hurt anyone, this delay may be just for you.
So this looks like it will be on shelves early December, I say before the 10th. That will give them plenty of time to do what they need. I'm thinking it sounds like they will need about 5 weeks, maybe 4?
Do what you have to do, we can't wait.
It sucks we have to wait another month but the 5 year wait will be worth it the first time you pop that disk in your PS3 and you will forget about it(the wait) with the endless amount of features.

I just checked my GT5 collector's edition pre-oreder with release date shipping from amazon and only the c.e. doesn't have a release date, the stand alone still has the Nov. 2 release… is this just amazon. that's what i;m thinking… Why would they do that thou?
I'm starting to worry about this being a buggy game, to much going on at the last minute.

I spotted the image of the box that the signature edition is coming in here in Australia, and it just looks fantastic. I think it's going to be well worth the $300 AUD when it comes out, as well as The Force Unleashed 2, it's going to be a good Christmas!

the exploits have been out for over 2 freaking months, and only now they do this?
i always said sony are the most disorganized company in the entire universe, but they did not have to prove it to me!

not going to change anything, whether it was on 3.41 or 3.50 it makes no difference to piracy issues!
1) Sony addressed the USB exploit in the previous firmware update. That prevention was enhanced with 3.5. There was very little delay in Sony's reaction to block the hackers
2)If you hack the system and copy the game to your HDD you don't need the BluRay anymore, which of course is how pirates will make copies of the game.
Since you don't know what is in (or not) firmware 3.50 , you can hardly claim that 3.50 makes no difference compared to 3.41
I suspect you know all of this already, and just like reacting like a crazy person.
no, you cant play games off the HDD if you dont have a game in there.
already tried it awhile ago would not work.
you cant download the ISOs and burn them to a disk either, would not read it so there goes that idea too.
there is absolutely no reason why GT5 needs to be on 3.5 SDKs, sony are just being cautious for future developments but at what cost?
they told everyone november 2 was set in stone, but it got broke so why should anyone believe them now?
got to play it at the motor show tonight, and have to say im not impressed.
the graphics are absolutely freaking fantastic, but there the same as the time trial demo which is almost a year old!
the damage looks so fake, bent metal DOES NOT look like melted plastic.

im really disappointed by it, we have been waiting over 5 frigging years for this and its not looking too good!

I'm not going to argue specifics about how the exploited consoles allow games to be played off the HDD, but you don't need the specific game disc to play a game.
Evidently the cost of mandating 3.5 is your feelings, but they hurt them all the time so why stop now?
whats hapnin psx community. i been coming to this site since 2007 & i noticed the trill(truth, real) game reviews & video game topics being discussed on this site. i had to participate cause Ben & Arnold reviews are based on there perceptions & not expectations. we living in a society now were its quantity over quality & me im a man of quality & based on the commentators & writers here i see this is a field of quality.
I thought which topic should be the 1st i comment on & i picked GT cause i been playing the series since the 1st.
i understand the delay of GT5 & i was expecting it in November. i been ready for GT5 since i purchased prologue & that was a lil taste kinda like when you really feeling ya girl & she give ya a kiss but ya want the whole package. i rather have a full complete game than updates 24/7 so what Sony & polophony doing i understand.
