Got your 3D HDTV? Looking for something worthwhile to play before Gran Turismo 5 hits?
Then you need to pick up MotorStorm 3D Rift , which will release to the PlayStation Network tomorrow. Available for $9.99 on the PSN and detailed over at the PlayStation Blog , this early 3D experience features all sorts of vehicles (Buggies, Racing Trucks, and Monster Trucks) and 10 different tracks, including Caldera Ridge and Kanaloa Bay. Of course, you can still play it without 3D so all MotorStorm fans ought to sign on for some off-roadin' entertainment. The cool part is that 3D Rift offers a unique event for each track; i.e., 10 events for those 10 tracks. As for 3D, it's explained in this way:
"With 3D you can naturally judge your speed and proximity, which will be extremely helpful when trying to avoid being side-swiped by a rampaging Racing Truck, ramming a rival Buggy into a cave wall, or timing when to get back on the accelerator as you take a tricky corner. When you are riding a Bike, 3D makes it obvious what you can and can’t duck under — even at high speeds! And you can feel just how monstrous a Monster Truck is when looking down at a rival Buggy just before it disappears under your super-sized wheels."
Sounds awesome. We also can't wait for MotorStorm: Apocalypse , which should be another intense winner. Anybody already set for 3D…?
I really want this! Unfortunately i don't have a 3d TV. I can do the cross eyed 3d trick and i actually like doing that so if i can switch the 3d modes to that i will 100% buy it.
Its nice to know there's gonna be psn games available in 3D too, not just the blockbusters
Demon's Souls in 3D, make it happen ATLUS!
No thanks, I wouldn't want the Tower Knight look bigger than what it already is =).
it's optional!!!
You just blow my mind, sir.
Oh man, and my copy of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift is on its way
Motorstorm Pacific Rift is really fun but I only own the first game.
PS: Do you happen to also like Dream Theater (I never meet people that like Opeth, so your avatar was a shocker)
LOL, I don't like much Dream Theater, for progressive stuff I prefer Symphony X. But overall, I like any kind of metal (thrash, power, symphonic, death, black, gothic progressive). Ironically I don't like much Maiden, Metallica, and all those mainstream metal bands.
PS Epica came to my country last month!!!

Good. I never bought Motorstorm: Pacific Rift so this will be great for me. I've played the 3D demo in 3D and it was pretty amazing. And for just $10, it's really a steal. Can't wait to pick this up tomorrow. 3D gaming is awesome. If you can afford it, you should definitely get into it.
So jelous!
Is 3D Rift Pacific Rift, just in 3D?
No, If you don't have a 3D tv you can still play this. I don't even have a HD tv and I'm picking it up.
Sorry for the ambiguously-worded question, but I meant to ask: is 3D Rift just a 3D version of Pacific Rift?
Oh, Yes, I'm pretty sure it's Pacific Rift but in 3D.
yes and no, it's only a singleplayer campaign and only 10 tracks, so it's not like the full game, since this is only 9.99$
Thanks. I guess I'll just wait until Apocalypse (is released), cuz I already have Pacific Rift, but no 3D TV, yet.
I hope I'll be able to purchase a 3D tv this Dec. Sony has many really good games coming out.
3d gaming does not have to be as expensive as you guys think. Still expensive? Yes. 2000 dollar or more expensive? No.
If you buy a DLP tv, you can get a 1080p 3d ready tv for as low as 600 dollars (I know, I know, still expensive, but not like these Panasonics or Sonys).
I was pretty scared about DLP technology since I still thought it, well… stunk. But turns out the tech is great! I bit the bullet and bought a Mitsubishi 60638, a 60 inch (yes, 60 inch) for 800 dollars!
The only downside is that it does not natively support the PS3s 3d mode, so you need a 100 dollar adapter to convert the 3d. However, it comes in the Mitsubishi 3d Starter kit so it didn't bother me.
If you are willing to pay about 200 more you can get the 60738 that will get a firmware upgrade so you don't need a converter box.
Anyways, the starter kit was expensive (I bought it for 320 dollars), but it came with the converter box and 2 pairs of glasses.
On to my quick review.
First of all, 1080p, wow! I had only ever had a 720p television and the IMAX scenes in the Dark Knight looked absolutely lifelike in 1080p!
Second, 3d, of course.
Games are absolutely stunning!
All the games look great, except the MLB demo, which looks alright.
PAIN is so cool being able to use the camera during replays and zoom around the environment.
Super Stardust HD still has fantastic visuals, and rocks and sparks flying in your face is surreal.
Wipeout HD simply fits with 3d so well, due to its futuristic nature.
Avatar (while not a PS3 exclusive 3d game) looks great even though the game is simply ok. It does lag though.
Motorstorm, really caught my eye. It has both pop out and crazy good depth.
Which is why this insanely long post is still on topic, lol.
I can't wait to get Motorstorm 3D Rift tomorrow!
If anyone has any questions about 3d, let me know, because I was researching this stuff long before I hit "Checkout" on the internet.
Thanks for the info. I've wondered about the Mitsubishi DLP 3D ready TV's. I've seen them advertised but was skeptical about whether or not they would be compatible with the newest specs that Sony uses to get the 3D effect. Glad to know its possible to get into the 3D game without spending $2,000.
this game looks good day 1 pick up for me.
I want me some 3D gaming.
sony hx909 55" an i was skeptic on buying 3d figured it was gonna suck, I couldn't of been more wrong. 3D gaming is amazing an worth every penny. Don't go cheap you always get what you pay for.
sweet!
now all i need is that panasonic neo plasma 3D TV that was melting my eyes and my heart today!
god i cant believe how good those things look, they make my sony Z series look like a SD TV!
