Think there are too many third-person and first-person shooters? Okay, well, how many of them are underwater?
Today, publisher 505 Games has announced they've teamed up with Russian developer Biart Studio to eventually bring PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners a game called Deep Black . Loaded with what they're calling "action-packed battles with an immersive storyline of complex science-fiction mystery, espionage and bio-terror," the project appears to be somewhat unique in a number of ways. As we're going to be underwater, you can expect some nifty equipment, like special harpoons, submersibles (all sorts of Navy SEALs-esque) and other…erm…futuristic waterproof gadgets. And although this is the initial announcement, the final product isn't that far off; the press release says to expect the title to be available in Q1 2011. Now, the timing may seem all right but let's not forget that the first quarter of next year will see things like Dead Space 2 , Killzone 3 and others, so… This one had best be up to the challenge.
505 hasn't exactly been banging out the gems lately; the recently released Naughty Bear was abysmal and although it was far better, Backbreaker still fell shy of expectations. Let's hope Deep Black 's intriguing premise leads to solid mechanics and engaging, entertaining gameplay.

The first of its kind in a long time, my interest is peaked. As I can appreciate Sony's obviously superior exclusives, I crave creativity in an industry flooded with Shooters.
wow this sounds interesting I'll keep an eye out for this one…I hope it delivers!!
Naughty SCUBA Diver?
Sounds like a promising idea, let's just hope they can come up with a good control scheme. There are more movement dimensions underwater than on dry land, so it's critical they nail the controls.
I'm goin to file this under "Pending Mediocrity", until gameplay and previews are shown.
for some reason this is not a game that I am even remotely interested in.
I think this screams epic failure for one simple reason.
Every game I have ever played that had a level or levels that took place under water, have always been the worst levels for the entire game.
The controls are always wonky and uncomfortable. Movement is always slow and boring. Granted underwater you do move more slowly, but it just doesn't translate well to a video game.
Regardless of the fact that they've been releasing mediocre to poor games recently, this just has bad idea written all over it.
Scuba Steve isn't going to be happy, he's got competition now.
*shakes fist* You stole my Scuba Steve reference!
I knew someone was about to so i jumped the gun as fast as possible lmao. 😀
I would say yay buyt its 505 after Naughty Bear im gonna be sceptical about this lol.
Ummm, I don't know what to say about this. Good luck I guess.
The concept sounds cool enough, but I'm worried about 505 doing this one.
Shame Kojima's not doing it, it would be another guaranteed hit.
the story sounds really good!
oh wait, 505 games are doing it?
PASS!
i would not touch there games with a 10 foot poll after that sh*t called naughty bear.
there going to have to bring democracy to cuba, cure aids and rid the world of poverty before i ever think about buying another one of there games again!
Sounds pretty interesting. The last underwater game I played was a section of Primal on the PS2, and that was pretty fun. Here's hoping they do a good job with this title.
Kinda seems like Aquanox without sub-marines to me. Liked Aquanox, gonna wait for critics' reception first though, 505 games aren't really renowned for publishing excellent games 😛
This does look cool. Cheers to something that's not a sequel!
