It was revealed at Ubisoft's E3 press conference but since that time, we've definitely wanted to learn more about this unique game.
Called Project Dust , this title from iconic Another World designer Eric Chahi had a particular inspiration behind it: volcanoes. In speaking to Joystiq , Chahi said that he's now "crazy about volcanoes" and when experts predict an eruption, he hops a plane and takes the first flight to see it. Yeah, we know what you're thinking: "…the heck does this have to do with video games?" Well, apparently, Project Dust is all about manipulating nature. Chahi describes it as a simulation, kinda "like playing 'sandcastle' on the beach, except you have more material to use, like lava." It doesn't take a scientist to know that lava can shape the earth, and that's part of the gameplay. You interact with your tribe of people by manipulating the land around them; you can even scare 'em if you so choose. The example is given of actually picking up water and turning it into a free-floating sphere, which of course is pretty confusing to the inhabitants of that world. The possibilities are limitless, right?
For now, we like the sound of Project Dust , if only because it sounds so darn original. It actually reminds us of something like Populous only with a modern twist.

…sweet.
sounds like fun
A video games developer who travels around the world to watch volcanoes erupting as a source of inspiration? This guy sounds really dedicated to the job, and that can only mean one thing…
This game screams quality. I have high hopes for this title. Can't wait to see more.
I keep thinking of Populous: The Beginning for the PS1 every time I see this.
Guy sounds like a nut. I don't see the appeal.
I agree, with my sadistic nature, I'd kill all the villagers in 5 minutes and the game would be over.
I don't think that's going to happen it's not like that.
Okay I spoke extemporaneously, the guy does sound like a nut, BUT thinking back over the ages I do recall having some fun with a few games that made me God. Not sure that sort of thing can hang this generation though. I'll try to keep an open mind.
@ stangman
Really? If it's not like that, then I'm even less interested. What's the point of being God in a video game if you can't even kill your subjects.
Never thought someone could get inspiration from a volcano, especially for a game.
Maybe thatgamecompany provided some inspiration as well.
Sounds intriguing to me.
I wonder if you'll have usage of all of planet's natural elements & if so, whether you can use them all or in different combos, to both, create, and to destroy.
Hmmmm, just maked me think of a catchy logo for it….
"You can kiss Ur-anus goodbye"
Sounds interesting in theory and in name. Ill need to see some gameplay. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at playing GOD.
I hope its as fun as it sounds, I'm picturing the old World of Warcraft from the PSX days, if its anything like that i'll d1p it.
This game is interesting. I'll have to keep my eye out on this one.
It sounds like a Peter Molyneux effort… original game idea… let's see how Dust is executed… It may give me an excuse to dust off my controller to play it…
Q!

Getting inspiration from something is easy. Making a great game out of it takes a huge amount of creativity, and even more work. We'll see.
Sounds like the Sims to me lol.
And we all know how popular and successful that has become. So good things may be in the future for this as well.
