Today, SCEA has announced that the God of War III Ultimate Edition will be available worldwide for the PlayStation 3; it will launch alongside the standard edition in March 2010 and not surprisingly, it'll be loaded down with goodies. This unique and highly stylized edition will come "encased in a high-end sculpted replica of Pandora's Box" and feature a limited-edition art book, exclusive digital content (including the director's cut of "God of War: Unearthing the Legend," a full-length movie documenting the history of the fabled franchise), and " God of War -inspired downloadable music in the form of the God of War Trilogy soundtrack and the God of War Heavy Metal EP." Not enough? Really? Okay, how's about a gameplay addition? If you purchase the Ultimate Edition, you'll gain access to the Combat Arena, which is an exclusive environment that boasts up to seven original challenges, plus the exclusive Kratos skin, Dominus, which will be available on the PSN. Said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing for SCEA:
"The God of War franchise has an incredibly loyal fanbase and we know they will be extremely excited with all the exclusive content and memorabilia we've packed into God of War III Ultimate Edition. With fans waiting patiently for the arrival of God of War III for the PS3, we wanted to make sure their anticipation was properly rewarded."
If you pre-order the Ultimate Edition "from select retailers," you will also receive a free PSN voucher code to download the awesome God of War III E3 2009 demo (the same one that will be in the upcoming God of War Collection ). We're really not sure how much more incentive you need but we figure you need the price tag, too, huh? Okay- $99.99. It isn't as bad as the $149.99 Prestige Edition for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , and to be honest, I think we get a lot more with the Ultimate Edition for GoWIII. Do as you will, Kratos fans.

Trivium aren't brutal. Not brutal enough for God of War anyway…
It'd be much more fitting if GoW3 included a song from Amon Amarth [forgetting that their lyrical content is more based on Norse mythology].
I was saying All Shall Perish was brutal dude. Trivium isn't brutal by far but I'll listen to 'em on occasion.

I saw trivium in concert and it was a damn good show.
I don't know who was ragging on his musical tastes. I read the follow-up posts and didn't see any of that but I did want to say that I was just making a comment to a band. It was an opinion. Never said he shouldn't listen to them. I'm sure you've all given opinions on bands that you didn't like before and the words were just taken as your opinion and didn't affect the person(s) that do like that band.

Still you deserve the in game content …I hate when they do things like that CE must be just some goodies or action figure and not extras on the game.
i will be preordering this and probably trying to pay it off ahead of time so i dont have to come up with the money when the game comes out. this game is gonna be huge. cant wait to play the collection and the demo in a couple weeks.
They should make it limited like the UNcharted 2. The 200 free edition made a big deal when released
N0, that sucks. If you make a special edition like the Fortune Hunter one for Uncharted 2 that is basically unobtainable, you need to also have a collector's special edition at retail for those that don't win the truly special non-retail one.
what you can't have only makes you to want it more. You gotta admit that the Fortune Hunter drew more attention than a Collector's Edition would've.
Definitely. But wouldn't you agree that even with the Fortune Hunter edition as it was, 1000s of gamers would have paid for a half decent retail version as well?

While I totally appreciated the sentiment behind the Uncharted 2 special edition. I mean, making it impossible to purchase a retail made the fortune hunter edition a legitimate collectors item. However, for thousands of gamers, it meant disappointment. I would gladly have paid extra for a collectors edition of Uncharted 2, it didn't have to have a replica dagger, but there are many different add-ins that could have been used to add value to a retail collectors edition without diluting the value or desirability of the Fortune Hunter edition.
This GOW Ultimate edition shows exactly what I mean. Here is a wonderful collectors item and edition of a game that's available at retail. But even so, if SCEA wanted to, they could easily have a special non-retail collector's edition of the game that includes some GOW item that is both very special and not available at retail. Everyone would want the special non-retail version, but all the avid collectors out there would snap up the regular collector's edition as well.
Either way, this looks like it will rock.

Oh, I wanted it alright, but I'd have gladly bought a premium collector's edition. There were very few of the Fortune Hunter editions made. So for the 100's who didn't win one, but wanted to, wouldn't a nice retail collector's edition have made a decent consolation?

The timing lands perfectly when I'll actually have they extra $40 to blow so I think I might have to do this one. I'm a collector edition nit for games that stay in my collection and I k ow GoW 3 will be a keeper. I was always disappointed there were no collectors edition of the first two.
has any one notice that the prices of new videa games are stating to go down, from 60 to 54, well at least in gamestops
Now that we know PS2 games on all PS3 are possible, I would've expected God of War I & II to be part of the "ULTIMATE" edition.
I think they want to make a little more money off of the GOW collection. Also, releasing it now will peak everbody's interest in GOW, especially with the demo.
If this announcement included the GoW collection many people wouldnt bother buying it next month.
I am interested in the soundtracks but why are they downloadable mp3s only? How hard would it have been to stick a couple CDs in the box?

This is one of the few series I would buy a special edition for. Can. Not. WAIT. I'm probably just going to call out of work the day this launches so I can sink my teeth into it.
Getting it on day one. For an extra $40 over the standard game this is quite a bargain.
Would have been Ultimate only if it included the remakes, as it stands, I don't really need it. Will get the regular game on day one that is for sure.
Right now playing GoW:SoO on the PSP and I'm amazed at how well they did it… It's God of War in small bite size 🙂 Just awesome!!
I am on it…lucky for me there is no Assassin's Creed 2 CE in the states.
I was waiting to order the rerelease for this info. If there was a set I was willing to wait (Demon's Souls will fill the void). I can't say I am glad to hear there is no bundle though.

I love Chains of Olympus. I beat it about 5 times already and still play it often. As a matter of fact, its sitting next to me in my psp, hmm…..

there are replica blades of chaos in the making I read somewhere maybe its here im not sure but that would crazy if it had came with it .
This will be the first collectors edition I will buy.

I want it but I've been burned by special editions in the past i.e. Batman. I would have to have to physically see this first.
