Konami Reveals Rocket Knight Revival

Ah, revivals. You just gotta love it when old-school titles get refashioned to show up as downloadable offerings this generation.

Konami has announced Rocket Knight for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC Steam service; this game was first released way back in 1994 on the Sega Genesis (and a little later on the SNES) and not surprisingly, this latest iteration will boast "updated graphics and alluring new environments." If you're hankering for some 2D side-scrolling fun that has long since taken a back seat to 3D gaming, this one should offer plenty of nostalgic entertainment. Said David Daniels, Director of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment:

"Konami's classic 2D action platform titles have a legacy of being well received and enjoyed by gamers worldwide. So it was only natural that we bring Sparkster, our favorite opossum hero, to next generation consoles with a combination of elevated graphics, all new environments and of course, the signature rocket action gameplay."

The storyline is simple: you'll play as Sparkster, a "fiery opossum" who returns to his home kingdom of Zephyrus only to find it lying in a heap. Without asking any questions, Sparkster – equipped with that trusty rocket pack – goes to take on the invading wolf army. Technically labeled as a "2.5D action/adventure title," the game will feature "massive platform levels and a rocket flying level." It's that blaster pack that is the game's signature, kinda like the grappling hook in Rygar or that fancy arm in Bionic Commando . Oh, and being an opossum, Sparkster can also use his tail to hang, although we're not entirely sure what kind of benefit that is…

Anyway, look for the redesigned Rocket Knight some time next year.

Awesome! Go PSN …. it has really come a long way since inception. With this coming out, Trine this Thursday, and I just heard both Oddworld PSOne titles, the network is squeezing alot of hard earned cash out of me. But hey, I'm not complaining.

Never heard of this game back in the day, but it sounds like fun. I have the Lemmings revival, and I heard the Prince of Persia one was good. If Metal Gear (MSX) gets remade, I'd like to see it done in this fashion, with updated graphics and perhaps voice actors instead of text.
