Unfortunately, while they did show off a very revealing trailer during Sony's E3 press conference, we still don't have an estimated launch date for Gran Turismo 5 .
But perhaps the strangest aspect of this situation is that the game seems to be ready. Like, ready ready. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi unveiled Gran Turismo for the PSP at the show but failed to add one little nugget of information, which he has since delivered to Eurogamer : evidently, GT5 "is at a point where we can release it any time we want." …er, really? Then, uh…how's about now ?! Well, not so fast; Yamauchi added that they "can always keep working on it" and it's "very important" to insure that every last aspect of the game is "done perfectly." He did add a few more pieces of information for Gran Turismo PSP , saying it's scheduled to release near the PSP Go!'s release date in October and that there may be connectivity between this mobile version and GT5. And if you didn't already know, the handheld iteration will be a digital download and be about 1 Gig in size. Also, that trailer for GT5 during the conference revealed official Rally racing and NASCAR – believe it or not; we can't believe they snagged that license, too – along with the good possibility of vehicle damage, so it was an eye-opening presentation. But it's actually ready to go now? They could release it "any time?"
Look, we're all for perfectionists who want to provide us with the best possible experience, but don't go saying things like that . It gets everyone all riled up.
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
That is just extremely hard to read 🙁 Saying that, I want it to be perfect, every aspect of it.
The best car simulator in the world deserves no less…

I think they may release it along side the competition Forza3
Wouldn't doubt it, and that would destroy Forza's time in the sun.
I think you are probably right! Not to mention they are probably making sure they can match Forza feature for feature; however I must say the way you can exchange cars in Forza, including setups and body paintwork is nice! I wonder how many "community" features will be included in GT5

does the GT Prologue out sell the current Forza now? pretty pathetic. Forza looks cheap.
And compromise the game integrity? Personally I would rather Polyphony release the game "when its done" rather than in effort to compete with Forza 3.
Perfection is in PD's blood and to be honest a rushed game goes against what PD is. In the end however PD can take all the time they need because its a perfect product I would like to see.
Forza guy: and we will have over 400 cars! (crowd cheers) The next day GT guy: and we will have over 800 cars…on the PSP. (you hear a gun shot in the distance as a family is left without a father) Ok well maybe not the last part but i bet forza guy was not too happy.
That'd be great and all but for some reason, I think all of the MS fanboys would be out in full force, telling everyone "even if you don't like arcade style racing, go get Forza 3. It's groovy."
2K78, that was a hell of a comment dude. Nice. Im a GT vet and i couldn't put it better myself.
Sticklife…that was hilarious lol.
Did someone just call Forza arcade style? A car sim that lets you actually watch the wear and tear on your car while you drive? That's pretty dubious. On topic though I think that holding the game out may be to add some stuff. He did goto Turn10 and try out Forza 3 so maybe he came away with some ideas to improve GT5. Personally I'm excited that we have competing franchises in the sim racing.
Although they are are two different games, I would like no less for this game to be made up to the same level of perfection as MGS4. Then I will be happy.
It will be!

I concur, I've always found the GT games to be very polished. I can wait as long as they need me to, same with FF13. Less than 4 years between FF12 and FF13 is not bad. GT is approaching 5 years. Great games take time.
What are you talking about? FF12 was released in late O5'
FF13 if it ever gets released will be sometime in 2010, that is not less than 4 years
Actually it was released in Japan on March 16, 2006 and not in the US until October 31 of the same year. And with FFXIII planned to come out in Japan this winter, that'll make it less than 4 years.
Thank god they added rally! Was a bit uneasy 'bout the fact that Prologue didn't have it.
GT rally is really fun and is the "escape" for GT games. Road racing is REALLY rough and takes a lot of guts and patience to endure. So it's always good to have rally alongside.
The game looks ready to me! That short trailer had it all….even the damage.
GT fans know that the game has to be perfect or at the highest level it can be, so we'll wait. This gives me time to get myself a new wheel!
PS: Was I the only impressed by the miscellanous presentations they added? Crowds, towns that feel alive, jets flying over the tracks, etc.? That's some really sweet stuff, little yes, but the little things really make the whole more enjoyable.

Actually, I love that "miscellaneous" stuff too, Scarecrow. Gran Turismo has always felt a little like a "tour of the world" so to speak, and this was never more apparent than in Prologue. GT5 is going to be a real treat, a feast, in EVERY possible aspect. Day one purchase, easily.

@Qubex
yerr you can swap cars in GT5..
GT5 will probs be out around same time if not same day as Forza3 and…i think GT will put Forza in its place…GT is the king of racers end of!!
800 cars…cant remember how many tracks…Damage..AMAZING GRAPHICS…gonna be BIG!
And in MS con at E3 they kept saying its the Best racer on any console rar rar said it a few times i think…but..GT5 as got more cars and tracks..and better graphics…and as we all know…Gran Turismo games are always..ALWAYS amazing

GT puts it down in 4 places since the very first game. Graphics, Cars, Tracks, and best handling physics.
Forza does a good enough job to take the job for "Microsofts Simulator" but in comparison to GT, its graphics are almost as great but they always looked a bit cartoony, now too virtual/fake in Forza 3. The handling in Forza was good too, but it always lacked a "solidness" that PD always delivered.
are there gonna be dragons?
No, but there's a bunch of snakes. Viper GTS, SRT-10, SRT-10 Tuned 😉
Obviously not , this is a racing game . It does have unicorns and griffins though .
Yes of course there will be dragons :P. I also liked all of the extra things going on around the track, it really completes the experience. I can't wait for this game and considering it will get really high ratings I think it would be smart to release with forza3 to pull some sales. I have never really been a fan of forza, personally I liked GT2 better than forza2. And I think that GT PSP will even give forza3 a run for its money.

That game WILL be mine!!!!!!!!
I want to have both GT5, and Forza 3. I believe that they will both be really good games. That way I get to have the best of both games. Everyone that is only "all about Sony" misses so many good games. TOO BAD!!!!!!
Normally I'd agree with that, but not here. Once you get used to Gran Turismo, Forza just feels cheap, crappy and… wrong.
To borrow a phrase: "Forza is the Mario Kart of racing sims." =)
-Arvis
I think as a Simulator GT does the better job but i will admit that Forza 3 does look very good, though im sure GT5 will outshine it.
That said, i wouldn't mind owning a 360, non RROD Arcade version, to play F3 just to change it up now and then.
i hope they drop a release date on us, like "Fall 09". dammit.
Three words.
Tokyo Game Show.
Polyphony Digital is Japanese, Sony is Japanese, Japanese gamers made GT what it is.
Tokyo Game Show.
They will tweak and extend it from now until then, and at some point it will go gold and rop to manufacture so they have a monumental stockpile prepared for the inevitable rush to purchase it on day 1.

I was thinking the same thing.
This game is for Christmas 2009!
I watched the GT5 trailer again this morning and it's unbelievable how much better the detail of everything looks compared to GT5:Prologue. I knew they could get it better but HOLY FARCKIN' SHIIIIIIIEEEAAHHHHH!
Do you know of any website that has the new GT trailer available to download? I can't watch it live over the internet, so I need to download it before I can watch it (thanks to having dial-up internet)
Dingodial, get on PSN and download the trailer. It's up as a single video file or you can get part 3 of the conference presenation.
thanks for letting me know (even though my PS3 doesn't work with dial-up internet & thus can't access the PS store 🙂
I know there is always room for improvement, but it would be nice if GT5 was so advanced that it didn't need any DLC/add-ons. That may be why Polyphony hasn't released GT5 yet.
Right now they're waiting to release GT PSP before announcing any GT5 release dates. They don't want either game competing against each other, so they're being careful. Historically, there have been a number of times that a GT game came out in December, either here or Japan.
If they wait till December to release, then why even snag the NASCAR License from EA, by then the season will be over for CUP Racing…
Unless it's a 1 year deal for NASCAR to get into a game this season???

If the psp one had 800 cars I hate to to think how many GT5 will have.
Probably LESS than 800, actually.
-Arvis
Yeah Arvis is probably right (thanks to high definition & how much more memory it uses than standard definition; thus putting a strain on how many cars you can fit onto a 50gb. Blu-ray disc)
DLC car packs will be coming for years though.
"We Can Release It Any Time We Want"
Hahaha! Damn Straight, Its nice to hear a company talk back to the public.
Gran Turismo.
Over the years, I have heard (as all GT fans) that game "X" will offer the Gran Turismo series a serious challenge.
Here we are, with Gran Turismo 5 on the horizon, and it seems that there is finally a serious challenger in the 360's Forza series. Forza is no Gran Turismo, but F3 should be an excellent game.
However it was painfully obvious that the developers of Forza seemed insecure about F3 when it comes comparing to GT5 due to their over use of adjectives in describing F3 during the E3 presentation. Perhaps the idea of have a GT5 debut the following day bothered them. Or perhaps it was GT PSP's doubling of cars (and most likely tracks)??
Anyways, fast forward to now, and Mr. Yamauchi is basically stating that it'll happen when it's ready. I for one have no problem with that being how every GT sequel has never disappointed me in the past. Actually, Mr. Yamauchi should be applauded for not giving into to mass outcries and criticism for the delays.
Take your time PD, for I (as well as millions of others) will be waiting for your next masterpiece.
He seriously deserves your credit for taking his time to make a masterful product, even if you/we disagree with his delays.(i don't).
Gran Turismo has stood the test of time.
The inclusion of NASCAR and WRC will further cement it in the minds of gamers. NASCAR alone will help GT5 reach an entire new audience that has been suffering through the EA games.
After reading Mr. Yamauchi's recent interview and how the GT PSP title will possibly unlock the cars on GT5, I am officially sold on that title as well. I am hoping I can play the game on my PS3/65" HDTV in a similar fashion to the Resistance PSP title as well.
I am ready for the game though.
I need a racing game but I do want them to take their time and give us something incredible like they always do.
I love NASCAR, and the last four EA games sucked. im ready for a badass goodlooking nascar game!!
WILL THEY SELL DLC TO UPDATE THE NASCAR FROM YEAR TO YEAR, BECAUSE WE KNOW GT WONT BE COMING OUT EVERY YEAR…..
PERSONALLY I'M GLAD TO SEE THE CUP SERIES IN THE GAME, BUT RECENTLY IT'S BEEN A YEARLY RELEASE
I have waited patiently for this game to arrive and it sounds like it could very well be before 2010. I have to admit I'm getting a little anxious about it, as I have a serious lack in racing games for the PS3, and don't care too much for arcade-style racers. This game will be an instant buy for me. I have no doubt this game will be excellent.
haha just viewed the trailer on youtube and one guy left this comment
"limited cars, limited tracks….pay on subscription…..beed money to buy cars…not for me "
