It's one of those action titles we're paying close attention to, primarily because we remain firmly convinced it has fantastic potential. Bayonetta is scheduled to arrive some time later this year, and we've been scrounging about for any and all details.
Well, we figure the Platinum Games website will be a good resource, especially now that director Hideki Kamiya has kicked off a development blog for the game. In his long introduction post, he talks about a variety of things, including his reason for creating a female protagonist. Kamiya has a lengthy list of characters to his credit, ranging from Leon in Resident Evil 2 to Dante in Devil May Cry . That's interesting, actually, because when we first laid eyes on Bayonetta, we said, "…damn, it's the female Dante!" He also says that a female main character was a "tough sell," but he was convinced he could make it work. The one part that frightens us a little is when Kamiya says:
"…with Bayonetta, we would hate for someone to think it is a heartwarming tale and then buy the game to discover it is really a sadistically hard game (I hope…)"
Uh-oh. You can feel your fingers cramping up already, can't you? The days of Devil May Cry 3 (before the difficulty was fixed in the Special Edition), and the original Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox are flooding back to us. We always love a challenge, but let's just hope that Bayonetta is good enough where we won't mind the difficulty; we'll just want to keep playing because it's really that awesome. Well, anyway, stay tuned for more information as it becomes available, and as soon as Platinum Games issues a release date, we'll let you know.

I don't care if it's hard or not, I just want the game to be GOOD.
I concur.
I like the fact they show "spells" like the guilotine, and the giant hand smashing everything. This game seems to have alot of potential…provided it's done right.
Oh thank god I'm not the only one who admits how hard Ninja Gaiden and DMC3 were. I remember playing them and thinking about how much of a n00b I must have been. If this game is as hard as they were, I'll get ulcers.
Those games pwned me, I think making them hard is a cheap way of combating the critics who say "Oh it's just a button masher" but in my opinion that is pretty lame. These games are supposed to be button mashers.
Indeed. So did you cry when you played them? Oh…uh, me neither.
If anyone has made a level in LBP, hard is easy to do…so is easy…it's striking the right balance that takes skill.
Yup I cried like Glenn Beck 😉
Some games are good enough to overcome their difficulty. Cake Walk games don't get replayed, or give a real sense of accomplishment. I'm not saying that there is no place for easy games, as many people enjoy the experience (casual) over the challenge (hardcore).
But sometimes a games difficulty can be rooted in cheap tactics, and that can ruin everything. For example, at about race 50 in MotorstormPR single player, the competitors suddenly and inexplicably start leaving their racing lines just to ram you off yours.
Not just difficult, but cheap and lazy on the part of the developers. Motorstorm 1 was worse, as the physics made some vehicles far more affected by these cheap tactics (a buggies wheels sticking out could be tapped slightly to spin you, for example)
I like difficult games, not cheap games. For this reason I no longer recommend the Motorstorm series to my friends unless they enjoy online play over the single player campaigns.
I know what you mean about easy games, but if a game gets as hard as some of the ones mentioned in the other comments, I simply get turned off and wont even finish it the first time.
Yep…that's what happens to me. If a game gets too frustrating then I lose interest.
I managed to finish DMC3 because I loved the story and cool combos. But I could not get through NGS…..it felt like a chore.
I think I'll probably let this one slide by and save my money for GOW3.
I have have no idea what to think about this game, from what I have seen it looks cool but I dunno. A challenge is perfectly fine with me, bring it!
Just watched the trailer.. I don't know about this one. Might be too much Cheese in there for me to appreciate it…Have to wait and see I guess..
I've been waiting for information on this game for a while now. Who cares how hard bayonetta is as long as its worth my 60 bucks I'm cool with it. II still have to wait for the review, this game has been in my radar for a long time. Go to you tube and checkout the gameplay its sick.
I liked DMC 3 didn't really care for ninja gaiden, hope this game's good.
A few things:
-If it's like DMC3 or NG on xbox then I gotta pass because while I do like a challenge, I also want to have the ability to BEAT the game. So add a beginner difficulty for us old geezers that don't twitch and drink Mountain Dew
-How did the guy who made such great looking characters take the idea of Bayonetta and make such horrible art design? Her outfit is atrocious and it'll be hard to get used to.
-It sounds over the top and sometimes I like that so I'll be giving it a rental.
-Love the idea of a dev having a blog about making the game, SE devs need to do this for the Final Fantasy series so we don't have to wait around for PR spun garbage to be vomited at us.
End Transmission.
I second that motion..especially the end transmission part..:P j/k. I agree with you 100% about this one.
It's funny about Ninja Gaiden. I beat it on every difficulty when I had it on the original X-box. Then when I saw that they re-made it for PS3, I picked it up again thinking "this is going to be awesome!" Played a few levels, kept dying and put it back on the shelf. I still pick it up every now and then if I feel like I need to get frustrated and yell at the TV for no reason..but for the most part it just sits in my library of games..Not sure what happened there. Maybe I got old and my reflexes have slowed down. Or maybe I started drinking juice instead of Red Bull…damn that healthy living crap…lol
this game looks amazing to me and i was able to beat all DMC games on DMD so this might not be to hard for me since the person leading development made DMC but thats not to say i think it will be easy anyway i cant wait to get it i love this kind of game
Awesome…I've been waiting for another game to make me feel my heart pump! Beating DMC 3 and NG just reinforced the fact that I love being a gamer. That and to have bragging rights over my circle of friends. All valid points from the other posts.
I say bring it!! I've always enjoyed challenging titles. Especially in the last decade or so. Games have lost their difficulty to cater to the people who can't handle a good masochistic beating. I bet a lot of todays newer gamers would run home crying if they tried to play some of the difficult classics like Ghouls and Ghosts, Battletoads, Zelda 2, Ikaruga, Contra, and F Zero GX among many others. Bring back the challenge and quit focusing primarily on the graphics.
God of War II on titan difficulty was mighty hard as well. In fact I still can't get past the last part right before you fight the fat sister of fate. I can only imagine how hard Zeus will be once (if) I ever get there. However I did beat DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden on the original xbox so I know my skills are up to the new challenge.
If this is gonna be so hard Ill skip it. Im too old for this stuff, I prefer a nice smooth pace in my games. Hard =/= fun anymore IMO.
I feel the same way.
I played Uncharted 4 times and loved it. I've been through Dead Space 3 times and am trying to get all the trophies. GOW games have the right feel for me but alot of people say it is too easy.
I like challenges, i liked DMC not keen on ninja gaiden lets hope this one is better than that but kinda like DMC.
@ColTater
Oh yeah I remember the Gauntlet before the last sister of fate on titan. Took me 3 tries, and some swearing at the TV, and me breaking my controller, lol. Don't worry about Zeus too much, just stick and move.
Well The Final Boss GOW2 Or Any Other GOW For That FactWasn't Hard @ All! When You Know How To Move That Is:P I Haven.t Played Heaven/Hell Mode Yet In DMC3 But The The Previuos Ones Were Mad Easy With Dante, If The Controls Were A Bit Nicer Who Knows How Much More I Would.ve Liked It Then GOW. So I*m Down With Any New Game With A Tremendously Gard Level Providin' that It Comes With Many Difficulties For One To Fit In, Being "a New Gamer" N All:)
Is there any Shadow of Rome 2 game?
Hard game? Fine. "Sadistically hard" game? You can keep it. NGS was ridiculous. Tecmo, I want my money back. DMC3 (fixed difficulty) was still nuts. A shame too because I loved the first but I don't have time to do the same thing over and over until I master some devs idea of a challenge.
It's a no sale on Bayonetta based on that quote.
Darn, I was interested in this… but, being the pathetic gamer that I am I probably won't be able to handle this.
If this is true, that is.
