Capcom: Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2 Scheduled For 2010

Now that Resident Evil 5 has cleared the starting gate and is off and running, Capcom has two more promising projects waiting in the wings: Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 . For the record, we know the former is definitely coming to the PlayStation 3, although we're not quite certain about the latter just yet.

Anyway, after the recent DR2 unveiling, everyone was hoping that we might see the new zombie slasher later this year, and many were anticipating LP2 to launch before 2009 ended. However, it appears that neither will see the light of day until 2010: according to DPAD Magazine, Capcom US Communications Director Chris Kramer indirectly confirmed the timeline schedule for the two games in question. Kramer issued the following quote during a recent Major Nelson podcast:

"Capcom’s kind of on a 30 year high right now, it’s a pretty amazing place to be. Between everything we’ve got going right now, between the launch of Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5, and our big titles for next year, Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2."

For those of you who never had the pleasure, Dead Rising was clearly inspired by certain horror movies, as you are battling legions of the walking dead in a suburban mall. Just about anything can be used as a weapon – the game's primary appeal – and a lot of people enjoyed the all-out, non-stop action. The sequel will be set in a Vegas-like setting, too, so we can't wait to experiment with impromptu weapons! It's too bad we won't be getting it this year, as some people projected we would, but we can wait. Oh, and we'll let you know about Lost Planet 2 as well.

No thanks, I canceled my RE5 preorder due to Capcom's inability to tell PS3 owners when Lost Planet 2 is coming out. I will no longer be purchasing Capcom games.

It is odd that they haven't clearly said whether it's an exclusive for the 360 or not, even if it was just to say that the 360 version will be releasing first.

I'm very much looking forward to Dead Rising 2 though. I had lots of fun with the first game and it's mildly disappointing that there's still so long to wait.

Lost Planet was garbage to me II will pick up Dead Rising 2. Let's hope capcom doesn't charge us for the multiplayer mode like they did with RE5 ugh.

I could care-less about LP2 right now until there is something to rave about in LP2 that wasn't there in LP1.

I loved Dead Rising and I hope DR2 will be even better. It's almost like GTA but zombie style, i hope its even more expansive and I hope they had co-op or multiplayer, that'd be something…

Yeah, I kinda assumed DR1 was 360 specific just because that system released first.

I love the first one, running zombies over with the lawn mower was great. I feel like playing it again now 🙂

I think Dead Rising 2 will be awesome. might even fill the Zombie void I feel now that RE has gone away from the original Zombie feel… Still have to pick up RE5 thou but I'm strapped for cash right now.

As for LP2 I don't really care if it's coming to the PS3 or not, we have more than enough games to keep us busy. But I don't see why it won't come to the PS3 as the first one is available for the PS3 anyway. It was just released later. But it won't bother me if it doesn't make it to the PS3.

@ Ben,

I just read over at Kotaku that he meant next fiscal year, which starts in April 2009.
