Midway Wants To Keep Mortal Kombat

As most of you are aware, Midway was forced to file Chapter 11 a few weeks ago, which immediately sparked plenty of conversation. What was to happen to their major franchises like Mortal Kombat ?

Well, the first thing they did is take Ubisoft as a partner in pushing Wheelman through the final stages of development and into production. As for MK, a lot of people have assumed the legendary fighting series would change hands (the hot rumor is that it might go to Capcom), but Midway says they really want to hold on to it. Despite new documents that said Midway could possibly pursue the sale of MK, the MTV Multiplayer blog reports that the struggling publisher doesn't want to lose Scorpion and Co. Said spokesperson Geoff Mogilner:

"It's not our goal to sell 'Mortal Kombat.' It is something that, in the world of scenarios, it is something that could happen here. But it's not something that we as a company are going for."

Mogilner admits that there will always be publishers who are interested in the franchise, which he estimates has raked in over $1.5 billion in the past. He says he won't lie about the fact that Midway has discussed the possibility of a sale with publishers, and it could be an easy way of making a lot of money very quickly. But at the end of the day, Midway really doesn't want to sell Mortal Kombat . So we'll just have to wait and see what happens; Chapter 11 isn't the end of the world for big companies these days, as it's more about "reorganization" than anything else. Can MK survive this restructuring…?

As long as they keep doing it justice like MKvDC then I am happy they are keeping it.
Plus it is just about the only game midway has out that is making them money

Yeah, MK's gotta be Midway, but does this mean hopes for the next iteration might be dashed for awhile?

of course they don't want to sell MK. MK is what put Midway on the map.

MK is their child and i doubt most people would want to see their children

I thought DC would almost ruin Mortal Kombat I was right….. All Midway need is more cash!! or else Mortal Kombat will fall in the wrong hands e* EA or even worse….. Microsoft. So screw the charities and donate £2 to Midway!!!

I didn't like the gimmick they put on for DC vs Mortal Kombat. Thats why I didnt buy it. Everyone had their Tekkens and Street Fighters even Killer Instinct but I used to play Mortal Kombat(3) with my Pops. It was our bonding time to virtually kick each others a$$. That and Top Gear 3000!

It was my favorite fighter. Its a shame they went the way they did. I thought they were headed the right dirrection until this one.

the worst case scenario would be if nintendo got their hands on MK

good lord, nintendo would ruin that franchise faster than when they decided to stop making games for gamers, but for casual people that don't know who solid snake, master chief, kratos, sephiroth, marcus fenix, ratchet, etc. even are!!!

The day MK4 was released was the day MK died.
Although i didn't play MKvDC,i'd like to see what capcom could do with the franchise!

no way man!!
capcom would ruin the franchise

MK has to stay with midway (lol, that rhymes)

and i don't see why alot of people complain about MK vs DC. sure the concept is kinda stupid, but the game is pretty solid

They should sell Mk, after mk vs dc, im afraid they'll do something worse with the franchise. Acclaim had their 2 shots, midway did well with their 2 shots (mk 3 and ultimate),the rest i wont talk about.

After deception i thought Ed was moving in the right direction, that was until mk vs dc…shaolin monks was fun

capcom should stick to street fighter and midway should stick to MK

simple as that

i mean, what if capcom was going under, and the only option was for the series to go to midway??

………

yeah, i thought so

to sell or not to sell that is the question ….
i say sell it !
they are not doing anything with it let someone take it to its roots!!
i personally dont care about their latest games since i stopped playing after the mk trilogy for ps1 when they decided to convert a classic arcade fighter into an action game what gives?

I always thought of MK series as a fun diversion from the real fighters at the time, street fighter and king of fighters. It was cool that you could destroy your opponent with a fatality and the blood was funny when i was a kid, but really it got old real fast. MK2 was the best of the bunch, after that you can bin the rest in my opinion. I always thought that Killer instinct did what MK did just way better.

were long overdue for a decent MK game, not the wimpy DC vs MK, but one with all the blood and gore we remember from the good ol' days, i remember being able to play and watch my enemy fall multiple stories onto spikes below, punching my enemy into some contraption that grinds them up, oh it made me happy (woah i think im going looney here :P)
