PlayStation is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary and if you wish to relive the good ol' days, participate in this poll.
It's over at the PlayStation Blog , where you can cast your vote for the greatest original PlayStation title of all time.
Yeah, this isn't anywhere near as easy as it sounds. Scrolling through that list will remind you of all the amazing, groundbreaking games that came out during that five- or six-year stretch. The good news is you can cast two votes (and write in a game if you don't see it on the list). The bad news is the sheer awesomeness of that generation, which will undoubtedly make your decision a lot harder than you thought.
Votes have to be in by Tuesday, September 15 at 12:00 a.m. PST. Sony will then reveal the winners. Me, I had to end up going with Final Fantasy VII and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night . While Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time, the list changes a bit if they're asking about the best games. I also had to seriously consider Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo , easily two of the most important video games ever. But man, Chrono Cross , Resident Evil and Tekken are on there, too…
I voted Gran Turismo 2.
Winner: MGS (easily)
Groundbreaking in so many ways. QUALITY voice acting. Cutscene directing and powerful story telling for mature audiences. Stealth gameplay that works. Fully 3D, not having to rely on pre-rendered anything. It set the stage and inspired so many games to follow.
Runner up: Gran Turismo
Totally redefined the racing standard. GT sim based racers are still alive and well today for a reason. It was another mark that console gaming had matured past kids stuff into something sophisticated and had world wide context.
SotN was great but it's greatness is tied too much to prior gens of hardware and games, namely Metroid and other platformer scrollers. I've always thought of it as a premium example of what was accomplished in the 16-bit era.

Never got into the MGS games.
I voted MGS. It was the best game developed at the time even if I didn't play it until years later.
My second vote was purely based on my time with it. Twisted Metal 2.
Twisted Metal would definitely make my top 10.
So much fun. Especially when I found out the dominion cheat!
yeh when mgs first came out it was so ahead of its time back when games didnt really focus much on story telling and cinematic experiences.
FF VII and RE. Both redefined their genres.
FFVII redefined my life.
Yeah,RE….i loved it
Tomb raider[exploring the giant tombs in the 1st Tomb Raider was soooo awesome] and Legacy of Kain:Soulreaver[the story-telling and the shifting between realms, man what a game]

I loved Soul Reaver up until the end, such a setup for the sequel, which was not as good…
It's sad that Tomb Raider has become an Uncharted ripoff. Even the below average TR games made for great exploration.
I don't feel while playing that Tomb Raider is a ripoff. It certainly has many aspects but they are hard to get away from like falling and breaking environments and climbing.
TR isn't a jokey game, there are fun survival stuff to play with. The scramble button solves every single problem Uncharted has with close up interactions. You've got secret tombs and puzzles which aren't that hard. You can customize your specialities.
I just don't feel rip off is the right word. May inspired by. Which is good cuz Uncharted was always billed as Tomb Raider ripoff with a Dude.
you can only vote 2x,otherwise i also would have voted for RE,now THAT is survival horror.
TR is much more survival based, brutal, and scary. It's never funny. Watching the E3 Uncharted 4 presentation reminded me just how different the two franchises feel.
Its wierd how that tr/uncharted thing swapped around to tr taking influence from uncharted.
The hardest part of voting was the few seconds it took to find MGS and FFIX on the list 🙂
FF7 and Castlevania SOTN for me… Although MGS and Valkirye Profile would have been sure votes if I had more
Those are such hard choices!!! Why couldn't they do the usual, best of specific gengre instead and do like 20 of em for the 20 years?
Scrolled right down to Legend of Dragoon, didn't even think about it. Yes, my bias is showing.
There is no need to look at the list because Final Fantasy VII is not only the greatest Playstation game of all time, it is the greatest game period.
I really hope they donât break the remake by getting rid of turn-based battles.
There should be like a prize or something here instead of just a vote.
"I really hope they don't break the remake by getting rid of turn-based battles."
I strongly suggest saving yourself a lot of agony later by just reconciling yourself to the harsh reality now.
I won't be like you Ben! I won't give up! I know it won't be the exact same but if they intend to keep all the remarkably silly things in there then there's a chance they will have a separate screen strategic battle system of some kind. That stupid little handheld game that sold so well with turn based battles must have taught them something!
You and I both know that Square Enix has been learning-impaired for over a decade.
The best you can hope for is a turn-based option, which I myself haven't given up hope on. But that would be a reflection of LEARNING and this company just can't seem to do it.
I'm gonna come up with some remarks.
I kinda agree with world I really want it to still be turn based however I'm not getting my hopes up 🙁

I'm going with the first two titles that popped in my head, and that is Crash Bandicoot and MGS. It may not be what others would choose, but the question was about what I thought.
And now I shall go vote.
Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. Those two games really changed what it meant to play 3D video games.

Ape Escape…
Gran Turismo
The pioneer of racing games and major influence to the automobile world. While a racing game may not be the most popular, it is certainly a contender for the most important, in that it not only affects the racing game world of today, but also the automobile industry. I can write a 20 page essay on this easily.
Voted mgs for me, god i loved that game
and then it has to be the last of us.
Wasn't an easy choice but I went with Metal Gear Solid. It changed the way I viewed games forever.
Resident Evil 2 is a close second, absolutely awesome game.
There are better developed, more polished games, clearly, but for the redefining of so many things FFVII did, there really isn't another option. They pioneered a number of things and made an incredibly fun experience besides.
The STRATEGY GUIDE sold over a million copies for pete's sake.
I went with LoD and Brave Fencer Musashi.
I'm going with Castlevania Symphony Of The Night and MGS!
