Best PlayStation Games Of All Time: The Votes Are In

As Sony is celebrating PlayStation's 20th anniversary, they wanted to ask the community : Looking back, what were the absolute best PS1 titles of all time?

Well, the poll is now closed and the votes have been tallied. The winners have been announced and unsurprisingly, the legendary Metal Gear Solid is the winner.

Final Fantasy VII was the runner-up, which also makes sense, but I think some might be surprised by the third and fourth titles on the list: Crash Bandicoot and Crash Bandicoot: Warped . …really? I've obviously underestimated the fan-base for these games. I knew they were good but to put them ahead of titles like Gran Turismo , Castlevania: Symphony of the Night , Resident Evil , Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Cross …? I'm not sure that's right.

But I never got into the Crash games in the first place, so I don't know. I played them but they didn't grab me; obviously, though, they grabbed many others.

Vote Now For the Best PlayStation Games Of All Time

PlayStation is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary and if you wish to relive the good ol' days, participate in this poll.

It's over at the PlayStation Blog , where you can cast your vote for the greatest original PlayStation title of all time.

Yeah, this isn't anywhere near as easy as it sounds. Scrolling through that list will remind you of all the amazing, groundbreaking games that came out during that five- or six-year stretch. The good news is you can cast two votes (and write in a game if you don't see it on the list). The bad news is the sheer awesomeness of that generation, which will undoubtedly make your decision a lot harder than you thought.

Votes have to be in by Tuesday, September 15 at 12:00 a.m. PST. Sony will then reveal the winners. Me, I had to end up going with Final Fantasy VII and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night . While Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time, the list changes a bit if they're asking about the best games. I also had to seriously consider Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo , easily two of the most important video games ever. But man, Chrono Cross , Resident Evil and Tekken are on there, too…

PlayStation 20th Anniversary Sale: Lots Of Classics Discounted

PlayStation's 20th anniversary celebration continues.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , over 60 games have been discounted on the PSN and the list is chock full of legendary names.

Games from all four PlayStation eras are on sale and gamers can save up to 60 percent. PlayStation Plus subscribers can save a whopping 75 percent but you'd better act quickly, as the deals disappear on Monday, January 19. For PS4, you could snag titles like Killzone: Shadow Fall and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn ($19.99), while the long list for PS3 includes installments in the Assassin's Creed , inFamous , Ratchet & Clank , Resident Evil , Twisted Metal and Tomb Raider franchises.

Honestly, if you can't find something there you want, you simply don't like video games.

PlayStation Fashion Apparel Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Couldn't snag that extremely limited 20th anniversary PlayStation 4?

Well, here's a consolation prize: Fashion apparel inspired by the brand's two-decade celebration.

You can find it at Insert Coin ; there's the "Player" jacket, the "First Person Shooter" shirt and the Original PlayStation Bag (see all the pics at DualShockers ). The prices aren't bad but you better move, as the bag is already sold out. Pre-order now!

Care to advertise your love of PlayStation? I've never been into wearing clothes that highlight my hobbies (outside of books) but some really like to flaunt their favorites. The girl in the pictures doesn't look overly enthusiastic, though.

Celebrate 20 Years Of PlayStation With Your Favorite Games

What happened 20 years ago today?

The PlayStation brand entered the video game world. On this day back in 1994, Sony released the original PlayStation console in Japan.

As such, they're celebrating with a special 20th anniversary video, which you can view below. It shows off a myriad of games dating back to the mid-90s, some of which were really only popular in Japan. Of course, we see classic franchises like Metal Gear Solid , Final Fantasy , Gran Turismo and Resident Evil ; it all reminds us of 20 decades of fun!

Oh, I remember the PlayStation US launch. A very different time. The idea of a Western developer creating anything halfway decent was laughable (and in fact, there were hardly any such titles, anyway), the world of true 3D gaming had just kicked off with Mario 64 , and employees at places like GameStop were actually gamers. ….seems so very long ago.
