The Last Of Us Film On The Way, Naughty Dog Is Involved

They better not mess this up.

The Last Of Us won just about every award possible and now, it seems the developers behind this masterpiece want to bring it to the big screen. No, not that 60-inch screen in your living room; the big screen in movie theaters.

Yep, according to a Deadline report , a film based on Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed game is in the works. The good news is that creative director Neil Druckmann will pen the script, and studio co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, along with game director Bruce Straley, will be involved in the production. The movie will be distributed by Sony's Screen Gems production company, and it's interesting to note that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is somehow involved as well.

Said Wells about the endeavor:

"Since our game released last June, we've talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn't have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards."

Okay, so who ya got for Joel and Ellie?

I wonder if they plan to do a straight port of the same story or a new story in the same world. Fans should be nervous even with ND on the script, but hey the Evil Dead remake was great!

I don't think there's any reason to be nervous as a fan. Either way your getting ND' vision. I think that's what's important. If they pull the same story from the game cool, if they do a sort of spin off of other characters cool. Personally I think they should use the games story as the plot otherwise it might be more relatable to just being another zombie movie. Even though fans of the game know that wouldn't be the case.

ND should be nervous though as it might end up tarnishing any feature games should it turn out to be just an okay movie. Or worse.

But it basically was a movie… To me at least.
First an Uncharted movie, now this? Is Naughty Dog a game company or a movie studio???

If they're good at what they do, why do they need to identify one way or the other?

Hmmm in doing the go-ahead on this movie, I wonder if this might've been partially the reason that Amy H. was tossed to the curb?????

I wondered that too, maybe she wouldn't stand for it.

Sam Raimi on board as producer. Well, he helped to make the new Evil Dead pretty solid, and I didn't mind the Spider-Man movies as much as many seem to (aside from the third; that one was pretty dodgy). Having Druckmann at the helm is promising, but hopefully he decides to expand on the story of the game, rather than just transplanting it. Wonder who they'll get to direct…

I liked the old spiderman more than this new guy.

I have a feeling it won't be about Joel and Ellie at all.

Wish ND all the luck. In today's cinema not much positive can be said about what NEEDS to be in a movie, and what SHOULD be.

seriously?
you couldnt find better partners?
so the morons who totally embarrassed and destroyed resident evil on the silver screen, even worse than what crapcom themselves have managed with the games, are the best partners you could find?
yup, this is exactly why everyone shivers when they hear the term video game based movie!

You're going to complain about the distribution company? Okay, FYI, Screen Gems is owned by Columbia Tristar, which is owned by Sony. The RE films have actually been created a range of studios including Constantin Films, Impact Films and New Legacy. Screen Gems only ever distributed.

But let's ignore that. RE is one series from Screen Gems. They've also put out some good films, like Dear John, the new Carrie, the Underworld series (the first three were good, at least), Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. So yeah.

In either case, their involvement is fairly limited.

Blankline, do you seriously think they can just partner with whatever company they want for whatever price and agreement they want?

They found a partnership that works for both sides and with a group that has shown good potential and can agree to share in the vision…. What more do you want?

Point being that Screen Gems have done more than RE, and that they aren't actually involved in the production process. So, your initial post is the epitome of blind stupidity.

Unless you're referring to Raimi, but that doesn't make sense as he wasn't involved in RE.

And better fit? It's a distribution company. One is very much like another.

The Grounded documentary is pretty nice. I'm taking my time watching it. Any word on the MGS movie? The Uncharted movie? I'm sure there are some more. It seems like we're always hearing news of the top franchises getting ported to Hollywood.

Since no one answered the question I will. I could see Ed Quinn playing Joel and Ellen Page playing Ellie, but she may be out growing that part. May not be able to play a kid so much now.
