Ben-DutkaResident Evil 5 has taken the crown that belonged to Street Fighter II for over 20 years.
Capcom has revealed that RE5 is now the company's best-selling video game of all time, moving 6.5 million copies as of September 30, 2013. This eclipsed SFII's sales record, which sat at 6.3 million. However, it's important to remember that this number doesn't include future iterations of SFII. For instance, Street Fighter II Turbo sold another 4.3 million.
But in terms of a single game, RE5 is now the king. As part of the publishers Q2 2013 financial results, they also revealed that they now have over 60 titles that have sold over 1 million units. Monster Hunter 4 's Japanese release saw 2.8 million copies sold, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen has seen "steady sales," and the console and PC versions of Resident Evil: Revelations "basically achieved project sales." The critically panned Lost Planet 3 , however, came in below expectations.
All told, Capcom's sales leaped 16.9 percent to 53 billion yen, and they received a net income boost of 20 percent to 4.95 billion yen.
I was going to say, there is no way RE5 could have outsold every version of Street Fighter II combined 😛 I dread to think of how many releases there are of that game… S till quite surprising… It wasn't the best RE putting it politely… But the RE5 Gold Edition is packed with content and a decent deal… But that ending… Oh I don't think RE's story will ever have credibility again after that last confrontation…
That's pretty sad for those who don't like what that game did to the series.
