As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , Verizon's Redbox Instant App is now available on the PS3. This gives you access to thousands of streaming movies, and you'll even be able to find and reserve new releases on DVD and Blu-Ray at more than 43,000 Redbox kiosks, right from your home console.
The service will only cost you $8/month, and you'll receive four DVD rental nights at the Redbox kiosk every month. For an extra dollar, you can rent Blu-Ray movies, and you have the option of renting or purchasing new digital releases on-demand, without the necessity of a subscription. Redbox Instant will also feature The Playlist (exclusive to PlayStation users), which is a "specially-curated collection of movies from our subscription movie library, just for you." This will be "updated frequently" and will have categories like "Stuff Blowing Up" and "Movies With Balls." It's nice to get organized.
If you're on the fence, head over to this website and grab yourself a one-month trial period. You'll be able to find Redbox Instant in the "What's New," "My Channels," and "TV/Video Services" sections on the PS3 XMB, as well as in the Apps section of the Store.
I have Netflix but I will have to give it a try.
If the movies are not new releases and similar to that of Netflix Ill pass. However, the benefits do seem pretty cool. I actively use redbox and that 4 nights a month would be nice.
Eh I'm getting tired of all these media companies offering the same thing, can we just have Netflix as the main movie streaming provider and that be that… its just getting so messy. I can't even begin to imagine how cluttered the PS4's interface will be with companies like this on there… enough already.
Monopolies are bad for consumer costs.
If netflix was the only one we would still have the crappy netflix setup from years ago. Competition makes them add features like multiple user profiles and such.
But I must say amazon prime has really stepped up their game. I use then more than the rest it seems.
Even Tesco has one…( A UK supermarket chain like Wallmart) I just saw it was on the PSN… It's an utter infestation.
Neat but if it requires cc information then i'll pass thats the reason i havent used netflex or Music Unlimited. i've been using Youtube, Vidzone & Crackle
Darn I was hoping they were going to allow you to rent games directly from your console, either via timed download or streaming service. That would be awesome, this seems very meh to me.
Really like Redbox. I like the fact you can rent a game or movie for a dollar, for 24 hours. Makes me wish Blockbuster/Hollywood video was still around. I miss renting video games. They probably should have included the video game section to make this a lot more desirable.
I did the free trial of Redbox Instant. The ONLY good thing about it is the credits you get. Other than that, the streaming is terrible as they don't allow streaming of what is offered in the kiosks. They don't stream television shows and the available movies are pretty poor. You're better off sticking to Amazon Instant Video or Netflix.
They just better keep the porn out of the Kids and Family section. Amazon Instant Video had that problem from our crappy Sony Blu Ray player. We wrote Amazon's dudes, apparently located in the middle east, and they cleaned it up.

I'm going to keep it for the month but overall you might as well stick with Netflix. Outside a few movies Netflix doesn't have, there's no reason going beyond the free month.
well i'm not in the US so i don't really care and i don't really do this kinda thing anyway.

another thing i hate about DD.
cost.
i was looking around for internet streaming boxes this past few weeks and f*ck me there expensive!
the boxes themselves are 200+ bucks, then to purchase each season of a TV show is like 60 bucks!
so if i wanted to order 1 season of each TV show i normally watch it would cost me over 600 bucks!
WTF!?
go to a store and buy the bluray for 30 bucks, or download it via a DD service for twice that price.

its funny people constantly whinge and moan how expensive foxtell is, but were only paying 100 bucks a month for the full package!
100 bucks a month and watch as much crap as you want, or 600+ bucks a month just to watch one season of a few specific shows.
sure its nice to be able to watch what specific episode you want when you want, but is that convenience worth 5 times the price?

I'll check it out. I gave up on Netflix after they introduced their totally unwanted "Post-Play" feature which you can't disable. I'm a big stickler for watching movies/shows as they're intended, and this interrupting the credits nonsense is a deal breaker for me.
