How big is Grand Theft Auto V ?
Big. Really big. Like bigger than the virtual landscapes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas , Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption combined .
And to help prove it, here's the leaked map of GTAV, courtesy of Forbes . This leak comes from a "prematurely released copy of the Brady Games strategy guide," apparently.
Los Santos really is massive, as evidenced here. The zoomed-in pictures are taken from way up in the air, which gives you an idea of the vast size and scope of the city and the surrounding areas. We've heard that there's plenty to do even outside the city proper, and exploration isn't merely limited to land. Remember when going into the water meant instant death?
Well, not anymore. In fact, you can do just about anything you want, whenever you want in GTAV. And isn't that a fair part of the fun in any sandbox game? Epic exploration and freedom!

There is a gif I saw on reddit yesterday where it zooms in to the centre of the map into a section which zooms into a subsection which zooms to street level. It gives a very nice feeling of the scale of the map.
The first thing I wanna do is visit CJ`s house…Or at least where it shouldve been!
It's there as far as I know, so you can visit it to your heart's content. 🙂
Okay, the first image I saw without them zoomed in sections I thought that it wasnt that big. Now seeing how far zoomed out that images is and the detail crammed in… I'm impressed.
My initial fear was thinking about San Andreas and spending an hour or so lost in the woods from a plane crashing, but on GTA5 you can switch characters so if you do get lost and cant be bothered to get all the way back you can just switch character and focus on something else. To be honest, I think I might just spend the first day exploring. Cant wait.

I'm so happy that the countryside is back – and it's not just some grass plains on the city border either, but a really significant share of the map.
Can't wait to explore those smaller villages and outskirts, I bet there's plenty of hilarious stuff to be found there.
probably some gophers to hunt
Fast travel would be good. In GTAIV the second you hit the outskirts you were stranded cuz no taxis came by.
Nono, enjoy the travels! Get a plane and get there fast and in style, or grab a motor bike and take the scenic route!
Or just cruise along the highway in a comfy car, listening to the radio and chill.
*sigh* I can't wait to enter the world of GTA again. There's just nothing like it.
Ain't nobody got time fo dat!
@World,
I got the reference.
Well played. 🙂
Yet I've seen some people say that the map is small! Crazy people they are
I'm a City guy — would like more City in the map.
Maybe a mountain too
It's hard to appreciate the scale without those zoomed in pieces. Now, I'm impressed.
And I saw a gif last night that stripped away most of the map detail and left behind a ninja turtle. Now I can't not see it. :/
Mind…blown…I'm just excited to get back into it for awhile and 'lose' myself again. Getting that warm fuzzy feeling. Can't wait.
Stay Classy PSX…
this sealed the deal for me to pre-order this game. Cant wait !!
Wheres the underwater city component?
OK BUT will the PS3 sustain it technically or will it figuratively crumble/collapse like the Tower of Babel (remember L.A. Noire?)?
one thing that worries me, such a large portion of the map is countryside.
so what do you do there?
i hope its far more densely populated and has allot more things to do there than what SA had.
