“Emergency Maintenance” For FFXIV: A Realm Reborn…Already

If you want to be optimistic about it, this just means that a ton of people are still interested in the game.

When Final Fantasy XIV first launched on the PC back in 2010, it was basically a wreck. From a technical standpoint, it was virtually unplayable, which was made abundantly clear in many highly critical reviews. But the new attempt, A Realm Reborn , is coming to the PS3 and PC on August 27 and MMORPG fans are hopeful.

The only problem is that the game is already running into issues. As reported by VideoGamer , those involved in the early access action have reported all sorts of problems. Game producer and director Naoki Yoshida has issued an apology and promises that Square Enix is currently working on fixes. Let's hope they work fast.

North American and European users have encountered issues with the game's instances, and error messages such as this- "The World is currently full. Please wait until an opening is available and try again." The developer has now limited access to full character creation, which stops players from being able to create a new character. They're in the process of "emergency maintenance" and the game continues to be taken down while they work on it. Here's what Yoshida had to say:

The maximum expected population limit is nearing for each World, and unless the current World simultaneous connection amount decreases, we are unable to open release the limitation.

In case we do release the limitation, there is a high chance that the corresponding World will crash or cause issues, and we are thinking that it will be difficult for us to release it for a while. We please ask you to consider playing in a World that has a low limitation. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and ask to continue with your cooperation."

They've already gone through a long beta process but evidently, that wasn't quite enough. Or, maybe they just weren't prepared for the number of early access players. Do you choose to be optimistic…?

Apparently it's good so there's that. If it makes any money after all of these catastrophic calamities I hope they reinvest it in an actual FF style game for XVI.

So far I have a lvl10 conjurer and a lvl15 lancer (gotta love the character carry over from beta). Words can't describe enough how happy it makes me playing the game. I can assure you it has made me forget about the crapfast SE has put out this generation of gaming thus far.

… So it's really good, LV? Compared to other mmorpgs or just objectively as a game?

yeah man everyone loves it, I would have given it a whorl if they had given me a beta code but no luck. I never rule anything out, all my opinions and such are subject to change, it'd be hard to start paying for a game monthly though. I'd have to fall into some money.

Yeah…I've been fortunate to be able to play for 4 hours today but I exited the game for a break (I'm not a jerk, I won't just idle while there are others wanting to play) and now I can't get back on. I've been locked out since 8pm.

This happens with every mmo release so I'm understanding of it.

yeah you kind of have to expect it, but it must be a pain when you have something you're excited about.

There's been roughly 6 Emergency maintenance's in the last 48 hours. Mostly due to overloaded servers and the cross server instance (Duty) Finder.

SE has been nothing but apologetic and it is a launch so gotta give them benefit of doubt. They're pretty good on communicating with the players on whats wrong too. Not a lot of MMOs have smooth launches.

Biggest problem right now is they have JP/Asia Servers and NA/EU servers, there's just as many servers on each side, but America and EU players probably outnumber JP/Asia players 4 to 1 yet the number of servers don't reflect that. :/

I've enjoyed the game immensely throughout the whole beta process with my lvl 37 Marauder and lvl 16 Conjurer. And server load was becoming a problem the last few weeks of the tests, so full servers isn't anything new to those of us who have experienced it already. Was nice to see a lot of people though. Looking forward to launch.

What happened is they intended around 400k or less to be playing. Theres been over 2 million players crammed in these servers. Overall the game is Final Fantasy through and through. Finally, a late next gen final fantasy. How i've waited for thee.

Interesting question, considering I've spent time in the EA version… How can you play a World with a lower population if you cannot play an already made character in a World besides the one s/he is set to? The only way is to create a new character, which is already an issue for people who've invested a good amount of time into their "mains."

I dont see an issue considering i cant name ONE MMORPG that had a smooth launch… now when the game is 2-3 weeks old and its still having these issues THEN thats when I have an issue

It's an mmo at launch. It's been frustrating getting on when it's busy, but once on, it's been a dream.

umm yeah…. most people play the game to play with friends… so theyre telling us world would be full so pick another world. most of my wkc2 guild mates are playing on one server since phase 3 and since phase 4 carried over, we stayed with the same server. now they ask us to go to a different world temporarily because they were stupid about how they handled the game. im not gonna do that because the character i want to use are in a server where all my other friends are. not gonna start a temp character because it would be pointless since avatar cant work cross worlds.

they decided to do open beta a week before release, big mistake. the open beta was only 3 days max and about half of that time, people cant log in because of errors. thats a very good time to stress test servers when noone is online. they fixed the servers but only exended it a few hours when everyone is already asleep and given up on whether beta would be fixed. fact is they shouldve learned from this but it seemed that they figured less people will be in early access compared to beta, wrong. youd think they wouldve had access to a rough count of preorders for the game and prepared for it but they didnt. i just see the same thing happening at launch tomorrow. its an MMO, wouldve thought that they at least look at other MMOs just to make sure theyre launch goes as smooth as possible.

I am loving this game to death. By far my favorite mmorpg since dark age of Camelot. I just hope they get the NA servers fixed so I can play my level 50 dragoon. Playing on Hyperion, but on Ramuh for now til they fix NA.
