Analyst: GTAV Could Sell 18-20 Million Before March 31, 2014

Grand Theft Auto V should end up being one of the biggest video games in history.

How big? Well, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia thinks it can sell 18-20 million units before the end of publisher Take-Two Interactive's fiscal year (March 31, 2014).

The anticipated title has been projected to perform "substantially better" than its predecessor, which launched in 2008. Of course, with a much bigger installed user base for the PS3 and 360, sales can really go through the roof. However, 18-20 million isn't the highest estimate we've heard; earlier this year, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said GTAV could sell between 22 and 25 million copies in its lifetime. That's "lifetime," though, and Bhatia believes it could hit 20 million before the end of March. Maybe it'll do even better than that.

If you're wondering, GTAV sold about 11 million units in its first month and over 13 million in the first 9 months following its release. All told, it has sold a whopping 25 million copies to date. …so, with a much larger user base, couldn't GTAV sell like…a lot more than 25 million?

Those be crazy numbers. I saw a whole true crime show tonight where they spent all this time blaming this dude's crimes on Grand Theft Auto. It was annoying.

Unfortunately, we are in the multiplayer era. The multiplayers on any Rockstar games are very lacking in controls, at least it feels clumsy to me on the PS3 (never played any Xbox games). Red Dead was better but it's still got a way to go. Even COD could barely make 25 million lifetime, so i doubt that GTA can do 20 million in a year.

I don't think the problem is the controls (aren't they exactly like they are in the campaign?), the problem is that Rockstars multiplayer modes are poorly done. Very uncreative and often just plain not fun.

I think RDR is the first game ever where we ended up not bothering with the coop mode in the game (my friends and I are nuts about coop). It was just repetitive "survive the waves" style gameplay with no real rewards.

Won't happen unless they release the game also for the next gen consoles and PC. But that will happen.

If I repeat something often enough it becomes true, right? 🙂

25 mill in its lifetime….. THATS IT. folks dunno this is what GTA4 lacked, GTA5 doing 35 mill when its over. PS4 on way, new lower price PS3 & 360 models available, this 1 of the last multi platform system seller games for this gen.

GTA5 & GT6 only games right now making me consider PS4 purchase in february instead of holiday season.

Is it only confirmed for the PS3? Would want to wait to get it on the PS4 instead if it does make that console.
