Bethesda: “That’s Not A Strategy Guide, THAT’S A Strategy Guide”

Shameless pilfering from "Crocodile Dundee" aside, this really is an impressive book.

Or rather, a tome. A tome is what it is, right? Bethesda has revealed the Skyrim: Legendary Edition strategy guide, which is essentially an updated, premium version of Prima's guide that launched alongside the award-winning title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim back in 2011.

Well, now that the Legendary Edition is on the way – it'll be here this week, on June 4 – Bethesda and Prima have decided to offer the hardcore fans this massive…uh…coffee table decoration? It comes in at over six pounds, has 1,100 pages, and addresses just about anything and everything in the massive virtual world of Skyrim . Over 350 quests and 500 enemies are detailed and if you stacked all the pages end to end, they'd be almost as high as the Chrysler Building.

The book will be available exclusively at GameStop, Best Buy and Amazon. You can pick up the hardcover edition (the only proper version, as far as the die-hard are concerned) for $50, or you can go for the paperback option, priced at $30.

I want this! I don't need it! but screw that, if this was any cheaper I go for it right meow! Maybe give it a month or two and see if it drops and pick it up. Lately I've been motivated to support items like this. It sort of a middle finger to the digital media take over we fear.

Tis a ponderous tome indeed. I'd love to have it now that my glitch is fixed but I can't be affording that.

World, even with it's glitches, is it worth it? I have always wanted to play it.

Definitely. Most of them seem to be fixed now, mine seemed to be due to the fact that I had every patch from the beginning overwriting each other. When I deleted my patch data and just installed the latest update it worked great.

$50 for a strategy guide? I'm surprised there's a market for these things when there are websites like gamefaqs and game wiki sites that give you every nugget of info you can imagine on a game for free.

I've always liked strategy guides. Sure, you can go online for the info but there's something satisfying about having it right there in front of you in physical form. If the guide has a good index, it's even handier.

Something like this is for collectors and hardcore fans. Kinda like statues and such, but for people into books and art.

those sites also give the best info you can get from the most dedicated gamers which cant be found in guides

You guys have good points, I guess I overlooked the collector value in something like this.

And you're right Banky A you can tell passionate fans put allot of time and effort into those sites.

You can find this stuff online but look at that compared to a really good guide like the one for Fallout 3. You're given maps that outline salvageable items in each location, detailed lists of unique weapons and weird random encounters and where you can find collectables such as the bobbleheads. It was also a big help to me in navigating the Metro by indicating which stations connected with which. No digging through multiple sites; it's all right there.

The cover looks pretty and impressive! I`d buy just the book if the contents were written in a journal format detailing an adventurer`s journey in Skyrim!

A strategy guide disguised as a journal!
