Wolfenstein 3D “Coming Soon” To PSN, XBLA And PC

It's the game that started it all.

Many believe Wolfenstein 3D is the original first-person shooter and as we all know, the FPS is now one of the most popular genres in the industry today. So why not celebrate an icon?

Bethesda has announced that Wolfenstein 3D will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in digital form. The release date is "TBA" but we've been assured that it's "coming soon," and it'll only cost you $4.99. Interestingly, the game already hit the PSN and XBLA in 2009 thanks to Activision, but this re-release is attributed to Bethesda, which acquired developer id Software in late 2009. If you didn't already know, players assume the role of B.J. Blaskowicz, a spy agent who must escape Castle Wolfenstein and eliminate hordes of Nazis along the way.

Also, don't forget that Wolfenstein: The New Order is currently in the works for current systems and next-gen consoles.

I saw some gameplay from The New Order and it looked awesome, showed you using a weapon mod to blowtorch a hole through cover to create a sniper post.

They should just make an HD version of the original instead of releasing the original so many times.

so is there any difference between what I brought in 2009 and what is "coming soon"?

I havent checked but I think you can still buy W3D on the EU PSN, so what exactly is the point of rereleasing it?

No difference – it's a publishing quirk – Activision originally published it, then Bethesda picked up iD, and the rights have reverted to Bethesda, so it's the same game but with a different publisher. Still a great game though, have it from it's original PSN release (and played it way back when, when it first came out, as well).

Y-axes are overrated :).

I thought it was already available as freeware for PCs…they even released the source code for free. Maybe that was the PC DOS version, though.

Already have it for Steam, PS3, iOS, and Android.
Why would I want to buy the same game again? Is it going to have some more trophies this time around? That might peak my interest, but i doubt it.
