After Over 12 Years, A New Side Quest Is Found In FFIX

See now, this is cool.

Let's say you're a hardcore old-school Final Fantasy fan like me. And let's say you've played and beaten every title in the franchise. Let's even say you were always a completionist and did absolutely everything in each game.

If so, wouldn't you be shocked to hear you missed something? Many years after it was initially released, it seems the FF community has located a new side quest in Final Fantasy IX . It's not a glitch; it's an actual side quest that is actually quite lengthy and involved. Credit goes to The_Kubasi at GameFAQs for discovering the extra mission, which has apparently avoided all probing eyes for a dozen years.

The side quest involves the Lost Nero Family and if you're interested, check out the YouTube video below:

The reason for this is because with Final Fantasy IX Square released such a bare bones strategy guide. They integrated it with the 'Play Online' website the they ran at the time where you got codes from the guide to get access to the secrets online – Which made the guide alone a waste of money.

Even so it is pretty shocking it has taken this long I did even run out to Lindblum on disc 4 but only spoke to him once. Quite a lot of hassle for just a Protect Ring… But still any news on Final Fantasy IX is exciting, A FF which is not mentioned half as much as 7,8 or 10 – Which is a shame as it easily matches the other games in terms of quality.

SE released a stragegy guide? I knew of Brady Games strategy guides, but not one by SE!

Brady Games guides always have holes.

One of few times that I'd say that having a percentage system would've helped… well at least now there's trophies and lists to highlight that we have completed all the side quests!

Now one has to wonder, how many games must've gone incomplete…?

Did you play X-2… I never want to see a complete estimate percentage in Final Fantasy ever again….

Yeah, I've played X-2 but never finished it, although I've heard from many that even though they did everything, they just couldn't get the coveted 100%… but at LEAST they knew they needed to keep playing differently until they get it :p

@Yukian: it is because you needed to go with one side (don´t remember which). If you chose the other side, you´d be stuck at 99% foreva!! that happened to me and it wasn´t cool at all.

Something telling me it was found way before that . They just did nt knew that 99.99999999999999999 % of the ff9 player never knew/did it and nver botheredto talk about it . The side quest and item you get are nothing special after all .

Sweet. I can't tell you how many insane theories I bought into trying to find a way to resurrect Aeris.

Maybe one day 😛

There is actually data for Arieth's dialogue in later parts of disk two stored on the discs. When you have her in your party for parts where the characters appear out of Cloud to speak on the current situation in the game. I saw some footage showing her in the Snowfields talking. Mind you I think you have to use a cheat disc to just have her in your party to activate that.

yeah there were so many theories and proofs back then, there was a gameshark code that I used to bring her back (not on my honest playthroughs of course) into the party but I don't remember if that ever initiated any dialogues that were scrubbed.

It was always just TOO suggestive that she should show up in the church for no reason.

Yeap, besides at this time there are a lot of mods for the PC game. I remember seeing one video that showed Cloud entering that strip club in the Slums and a secret scene showed up. I think it was cloud in a bathing tub or something… might be mistaken.

Another reason to religiously replay through FFIX once again, I love it.

Pretty cool, but my dad found this years ago. He's good at finding everything there is to find because he takes his time and does anything he can think to do. Sometimes it annoys me because he takes sooo long to do anything. He has to be sure he doesn't miss anything. I'm pretty sure he actually put over 200 hours into FFIX. I remember watching him play through this little "side quest" maybe 5-6 years ago.
