Oh, please, please, please . Make us all happy!
Tim Schafer is one of the true visionaries in the video game industry. He has helped produce some of the most original and beloved titles in history. And we learned a lot when he took to Reddit to answer fan questions.
First, he did clarify that despite the fact that he hasn't created a "blockbuster" just yet, the idea that his games were financial flops isn't accurate. In fact, he said that every game Double Fine has ever done has turned a profit. He added that in the old days, a one-million seller was considered a blockbuster game but now, it's more like six million. Then he was asked which of his games he'd "love to make a sequel to," and Schafer listed Psychonauts first. Sweeeeet. Then came Costume Quest and Brutal Legend because there's "lots of untold stuff" in the latter's world.
Schafer has been asked before if he'd do a sequel to the acclaimed Psychonauts . He usually responds that he'd love to do it, but someone would have to give him the money to make it happen. He said he brought the idea to many publishers before but sadly, nobody bought it. Obviously, it'd be a pretty significant project, so he'd need some hefty resources.
For me, I must reiterate- I almost never play platformers of any kind but I adored that game. To this day, I say Psychonauts has not one, not two, but three of the best designed levels ever seen in any video game: The Milkman Conspiracy, Black Velvetopia and Waterloo. Who's with me?
Didn't he leave Double Fine? I think you need a studio before you can develop a game.
He's still there as far as I know; he's been involved in the production of Broken Age (Double Fine Adventure) and the documentaries for the benefit of their Kickstarter backers. I could personally go for a aPsychonauts sequel and one for Brütal Legend, minus the RTS nonsense.

maybe it was a different DF honcho that left
You're probably thinking of Ron Gilbert who made "The Cave". He left within the last month or two.
never played Psychonauts so i really cant say.
wish he would do a sequel to brutal legend though that was such a kick a$$ game!
Sadly never played Psychonauts. The sequel I've been wanting to see forever is Advent Rising. I know it wasn't Double Fine but I still want one 🙁
They had it discounted to $2.50 on Playstation Plus a couple of months ago. Great deal at that price and well worth picking up anyway.
Psychonauts that is.
Awful game! Oh come one Psychonauts? That was a terrible!
Its not like I have a signed by Tim Schafer Pychonauts poster in my home… right? Right? Geez. Okay.
Okay, I admit it I loved the game. The art style, voice acting, gameplay and levels were fun. I mean really, going in to peoples minds and therefore in to bizarre worlds has to be cool and is.
When I first picked up this game on sale on sale I was a bit dubious. I figured it was one of those fighting game or anime-style. Nothing against those games or art styles, just not my thing. Anyway, the game was addictive and this was one of those games I was happy to let my daughter play. Unfortunately the game did not sell well for some reason. Maybe as was brought up, its a platformer and maybe that genre was tired at the time with only Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter, all my favs last gen.
So yes I bought the digital version on PSN but HOPED they would come out with an HD version, so far no. But it would be great to go back to the characters, be that there has been a lot of time since the original game and a potential new one.
Here hoping some day but most likely end up on the PS4.
Keep Playing!
