We learned over the weekend that bidding had ended for the remaining THQ IPs.
Among those that had yet to be snapped up were three of THQ's most prominent franchises: Darksiders , Red Faction and MX vs. ATV . Well, as it turns out , the same developer has landed all three: Nordic Games.
The company purchased the former THQ franchises for a combined $4.9 million, and they also got Summoner , Destroy All Humans! and Supreme Commander . Man, I really hope they reboot the Summoner series, because those games were pretty darn cool back in the PS2 days. As for the important acquisitions, Nordic Games owner and CEO Lars Wingefors had this to say:
"First and foremost, we are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group. In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles. A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multimillion dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new installments of acquired IPs."
There had been rumors that Crytek USA, which features several ex-Vigil Games employees, might get Darksiders . After all, Vigil developed those titles. But they must've been outbid. Oh, and we also find out that Gearbox Software paid $1.35 million for the Homeworld IP, and they intend to deliver new franchise titles that preserve Homeworld in its "purest form." Looking forward to Gearbox proving that statement true.
Please let them bring back destroy all humans to the playstation…the wii iteration was just awful
Who is Nordic games and what the devil is Homeworld?
That second part is a joke right?
EDIT: Unless someone can correct me, Nordic Games really doesn't have much AAA experience. This can't be a good thing…….
Why didn't Crytek bid higher damnit!

I am only aware of THQ being involved with a franchise called Homefront.
Gearbox with Homeworld….hmmmm. Not sure about that one, but hey, it is MUCH better than that stupid TeamPixel startup taking it.
Basically a team of Homeworld fans, who banded together to create their own Homeworld inspired RTS game, had created a kickstarter campaign to buy the IP, saying they would port the originals to mobile devices, and create a HW3. Would have been a disaster. Never mind the fact that the team were previously web developers and had NO game development experience.
What is Homeworld, never heard of this franchise before.
i guess its better than no one buying them, but i really cant see any good coming from this.
its like lancia come back from the grave, and also announce while we were at it we bought out ferrari!
red faction, darksiders, 2 of the biggest best franchises of this generation!
and there bought out by such a small dwindling studio!?
sigh.
this industry really is going to sh*t!!!!!!
Nordic Games is a publisher who amongst other things have created quite a few RPGs in the past. You find their portfolio here:
