The NHL is currently working its way through a strike-shortened season, so fans should be ready and rarin' to go this fall.
Electronic Arts has announced that NHL 14 will be coming to North America for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 10. It'll release three days later in Europe.
The new entry will feature several "breakthrough features" that are designed to "unleash the aggression, speed and skill of NHL hockey through the best technology of this console generation that EA Sports has to offer." Die-hard fans of the sport will undoubtedly appreciate the new NHL Collision Physics, which has been built from FIFA 's revolutionary Player Impact Engine. Then there's the super cool Enforcer Engine, powered by the same tech we've seen in the acclaimed Fight Night franchise. Last but not least, the True Performance Skating engine has returned for its second season, complete with all-new One-Touch Dekes. Make your opponent look foolish!
There's even a new Be a Pro Career Mode, which features on and off-ice elements. This is bound to soak up a ton of time, isn't it? Said EA Sports NHL general manager Dean Richards:
"We're very proud of the history of innovation that the EA SPORTS NHL franchise has produced on this console generation, and this year we're amplifying that innovation by leveraging technology from teams like FIFA and Fight Night. This year fans will feel the speed, skill and aggression of NHL hockey like never before, powered by some of the best EA SPORTS technology to create the best game we could ever imagine."
It'd probably be a mistake to assume that this year's NHL entry is just a rehash or a simple roster update. Hockey followers should be satisfied with what's coming; new stuff is always good, right?

A very minor gripe alert:I'm hoping they allow you to customize your goalie mask they have two basic teams designs and if you play with the Blues there's little difference between the starter and back up only that white part at the lower part of the mask. I hope they at least have the starter actual mask design.
As for gameplay: I notice the difference between NHL 12 and 13 just by the players movements when they skate and when you knock them down.

NHL was one of my go to games on the PSP. What about a top notch NHL for the Vita? About time?
Love my FIFA on the Vita. Being able to shoot with the back pad is a revalation. Duel stick for NHL Vita would be excellent also.
I can't wait…but I hope it releases on PS4 as well at some point
